Looking for some help. I just purchased my third Tacoma and have a problem. The coat hanger/hooks are over the rear sliding windows. When I hang my jacket up each day, it covers half the window, making it difficult to see out the rear window. It is not only dangerous, but possibly illegal.

There are also two pieces of solid plastic, about 1" square, one on each side over the rear side (passenger) windows. The sales person could not tell me the purpose of them. The solid pieces are where the coat hangers are in some of the older trucks and still on other makes. I wish they were there in my new truck. Does anyone know what the plastic pieces are for? And, does anyone else have a problem with the garment hooks over the rear window? If so, any solutions? I called Toyota and they said they didn't know.

    Thanks for any ideas

I hang my stuff on the driver side hook. Minimal blockage considering I never look directly behind the driver seat while driving.

Thank you. Unfortunately, mine is a suit coat on a hanger and it covers most of the rear window. I was hoping there was some way I could put one on the side wall above rear window. Another rep from Toyota suggested I take it to the dealer and see if service can do it.

    Thanks again

They are for the fold down grab handles that evidently your truck doesn't have. Funny how different trim levels can vary so much.

I can see the grab handles functioning as a coat hanger. It would orient your suit to block the rear passenger window. You might inquire at your dealer's part department.

Amazing. The dealer didn't know. Yes, I can see what they would be and a dealer should be able to do it. Great and thank you.

It's not the dealer that didn't know, it's the 20 something kid that's trying to make a living (or not) selling vehicles he doesn't really know much about. That's frustrating, when you land a salesman that's just not into knowing his cars.

We've been recently shopping for the wife in the $60k range. Those guys seemed to 'mostly' know their vehicles. Some really did. We ended up at Cadillac with a noob. His 3 day training certificate was proudly displayed on his side table and the ink only dried 2 months ago. But that kid must have gotten a brain dump in those three days. He knew his stuff. But more importantly, he knew when he didn't.

Can you just hang it off the metal posts of the driver or passenger headrest?

I dread hanging anything wearable in the back seat of mine. Our fur babies make sure we have enough hair to felt a small bunny toy at any given time. Open the sun roof in my wife's car and you're in your own personal moving snow globe.

A slightly different approach might be to consider the anytime backup camera mod. If my rear view is obstructed by the crap in the bed I just flip the switch and use the head unit as my mirror.

As far as danger, use your side mirrors like you're supposed to. A pickup truck, by its nature, will have its interior rear view mirror blocked at least sometimes, if not often or permanently. (Imagine driving a box truck!)

As far as legality, it varies by state, but laws about rear facing mirrors are way more lax than you think. For example, if I remember correctly, both Texas and Virginia only require one side mirror to be "legal" in that respect. Think of a motorcycle or classic hot rod.
