Has anybody tried to color swap the interior of a 2nd gen? I’m not a huge fan of the black and gray. I’d like to make it a brown and tan. I’d prefer not to spray paint (mainly because I’m awful at making it look good). I haven’t found any shops near me that do vinyl work, but I’d be down to either wrap, paint, or dye it. If you know of somewhere that just makes an aftermarket kit too, that’d be great.

I’m surprised no one has done it! Or at least, shared it. What color scheme do you want? Also, any chance you know any other seats that fit? I’d like to get brown leather, heated preferred! Frankly though, I’m not against seat covers as long as they’re quality.

You can redo the plastics with SEM trim paints. They have a whole system for painting interior plastics. Never worked on fabrics. Only plastics with SEM

I know I have seen people on here do color swaps in 2nd gens. Meso di a swap on a 3rd gen that is the first to come to mind for me as well.

Audi people have done this by taking the panels out, cleaning them, and painting them with paint specifically designed for this.

depends on how you live. I wouldn’t recommend paint fumes in an apartment balcony.

then there’s the effect of driving around without an interior door panel.

There’s even people who change leather seat color with prep and dye.
I bet you could find a second spare interior donor set for cheap to modify in your spare time and then quickly slap in when it’s done.

I’d probably go all black but brown and tan is nice too. Black subdues the interior, hides dirt, and diverts focus to the road where it matters.

I hadn’t considered the distraction aspect of it. Do you know of any seats that fit? All I’ve seen is 3rd gen 4Runner seats, and leather of those seems hard to come by

There are members with Scion FR-S seats Highlander seats and Lexus GX and and RX seats. Doing a bit of digging will show a number of projects. The higher optioned seats do require a fair bit of electrical work to get right.
