Hey all. Having issues very similar to this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-or-running-lights-with-headlights-on.348959/

2013 TRD Off-Road double cab auto. Stock headlights but aftermarket LED tail lights. The 10A "tail" fuse in the interior fuse box continues to blow out when the headlights are turned on, for a reason I can't find.
The fuse and truck were just fine and worked perfectly for the first 3-4 months of ownership but recently it blew this fuse for seemingly no reason. Nothing was intentionally changed (no modifications, messing with any wiring, etc.) prior to it blowing that would've caused it.

Symptoms are that no interior "night" lights work - backlighting on the steering wheel, climate controls, etc. The dimmer switch works so I've ruled that out. You can put a new fuse in, turn the headlights on, and it works for about 10 seconds before it pops.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

When I have a similar problem I disconnect everything powered by that fuse, then plug everything in one at a time until I find the one that causes it to pop. In this situation, it sounds like a big task to do it that way. So I’d disconnect the stuff that’s easily accessed, tail lights, climate controls. Then see if it still pops. You might want to get a pack of fuses first.

Sounds good! Definitely a tricky one to disconnect everything so I'll work with what I can.

Do you have trailer wiring or an aftermarket radio? I could help with a wiring diagram.

Stock radio but it does have a factory (or dealer, not sure how it works on 2nd gens), trailer wiring system. I was actually thinking that may be the issue.

Here's the wiring diagram for the tail light system. You might want to unplug your headlights, front marker lights and the rear tail lights, turn the lights on (see if the fuse blows) and then plug the lights back in one at a time.

Sorry to revive a now older thread, but we figured it out!
The license plate/tag lights were aftermarket pieces and had been very weirdly wired in/connected to the factory plugs causing the fuse to pop! Thanks for the help guys!
