I walked out to my truck to get my glasses out and noticed my interior lights turned on before I put my hand on the door handle to unlock (smart key?). I remembered seeing this setting somewhere in my head unit settings and for the life of me, I can't locate that setting. I've also spent 15 minutes searching the forums. Flame on if you will, or kindly provide the route to get there so I can disable this annoying feature :)

    thank you!

    Ain't technology grand?

I actually hope I never have to own a vehicle with a smart key. Not for that reason, but many others.

Now, would your owners manual address user controllable settings like this?

And I've looked through there... I guess i'm to the point now that I've invested 45 mins into trying to find this setting that someone on here will be able to answer in 2 mins.

I have figured out it's called "illuminated entry"

Capture+_2017-03-10-18-07-56.jpg It looks to be under "illumination".
Give that a try and report back.

To add to this, it looks as though it may be a setting the dealer has to change. If I am reading the manual right.

yeah it may be, because I saw no such option when in the illumination portion of the settings - although I think they called it lights settings, where you set how long your lights stay on and all that? idk, I swear I saw someone on here post where to find this in the settings...?

I think I remember seeing this with the Carista app. You might want to try that instead of going to the dealer. I turned off the no seatbelt chime and it is been worth every penny.

Curious why it's an annoying feature?

    Which reasons?

After owning two cars with smart keys, I'll never go back to having a physical key. It's so nice never having to get my keys out of my pocket. Or in my case the key card out of my wallet.

x2. Smart key has been awesome. I was talking to someone at work today about it and walked into a locked door. My mind was thinking it should have opened as I walked up to it.

No problem if you like them. My main reason is being wet. In salt water. My regular key is on a stainless ring in my zippered pocket. On dry days I do use the regular key fob.

Smart keys are more subject to damage, expensive to replace if damaged or lost, and unless things have changed, replacements are not that easy to program.

I think of all the older used vehicles I've bought over the years, and how many of those had missing or replacement keys. No reason to think that problem will be better for used smart key vehicles in the future.

Besides, I'm dont have an 'everything automatic' need. :D

thanks guys, I guess i'll just live with it. basically just bugs me because my truck is parked by my work bench in the garage and therefore i'm out doing projects and walking by my truck a lot, the lights keep going on and off. why run the battery down unnecessarily? i'd rather just disable the feature.

I believe you need to go to settings then use the little arrow and go over to vehicle settings or something along that line. Then you will see lighting or lights etc. Turn both off. Basically your lights won't come on when you get in and won't stay on at all when you get out. Which I like personally... basically 'dark mode'

I know this is an old thread but I found your answer. I have a 2018 TRD dclb Sport. I do not have auto headlights however if you leave your headlights in the on position all the time and you lock your doors, walk away then return the interior lights will light up. Now if you turn off your headlights manually to the off position this feature will not work and you cannot make this adjustment in the head unit settings. It's all in the headlight switch when the lights are left on or off. Trust me this was bugging the shit out of me when my son's truck was doing it and my wasn't. He leaves his light switch set to on during the night time when he is out. Hope this helps and I didn't confuse anyone.
