Yep, all newer cars scratch easily. My 13 wrx was worse I think.

Seriously? The plastic in this truck reminds me of 80’s GM vehicle plastic. It’s garbage. It’s dull & easily scratches with the slightest contact. I’ve seen interior trim hold up better in vehicles costing half as much as this truck. It’s sad & just another reminder of Toyota cutting corners.

Soon after buying my truck, I noticed how easily the plastic scratches/ scuffs. The lower door panel was scuffed up right away, and some nice deep gouges in the back from tools and such.

Have been driving the truck for about 30 months, and the plastic has been holding up well.

Maybe I'm just more careful since it scratches easily.

Soft plastic is just one characteristic of the truck, but at the end of the day there are way more positives than negatives.

    Just my $.02

The glass/clear plastic scratches easily like a mofo too! I read the dash did but so does the one next to the shifter! I just put a napkin on it to wipe off dust and left visible scratches!!

Try using a Swiffer on the clear plastics as it will minimize the chances of any scratches.

If you keep the plastic surface dry, its easy to scratch. I use vinyl/leather conditioner on all the plastics. Some shinier than others , your choice.
Even the 911 turbo have some plastics I go over religiously when cleaning it.

On any part that has clear plastics, never use dry to wipe. I carry lots of microfiber 450gsm towels in both the 911 and Tacoma to wipe everything. I never use a chamois. Always use thick microfiber to wipe water then another to dry. For all plastics I use nano wax then wipe off.

Yea. Exactly. They do scratch easy if left dry.
As soon as I brought the truck home , I detailed all the plastics with vinyl/ leather conditioner.

Stated simply: The scuffs and scratches are forever. Nothing will make then go away. You might make them slightly less less noticeable with a high quality low gloss interior dressing. You can really mess things up with a heat gun. Typically it will make the scuff/ scratch more noticeable.

Still love my truck, It's my 8th one since 1999 but I've always felt that the interior on my 2016 was a piece of shit from the day I picked it up, particularly the plastic and the doors. Toyota's used to be perfect when they were brand new. Not so much the case anymore. While it may be trivial to some, for the cost I expect better.

I have to admit that my old 2015 Dodge Dart had much better interior materials than my Tacoma. All the plastic inside (dash, doors, center console) had a soft rubber coating on it. It did however scratch pretty easy. The only down side was if the scratch was pretty deep, the rubber coating started peeling around the scratch making it look 10 times worse. The door panels did hold up much better than my Tacoma does now though with scuffs and such.

For stains, I just go to Lowe’s/Home Depot and get concentrated carpet cleaner and a hand held brush with soft bristles for seats and harder bristle one for carpet. Wipe cleaner on with wet towel, scrub with brush, wipe/dry with clean towel and let dry.

As an old detailer from years back, I will say this ... using anything on the plastic (armor all, conditioner, anything with oils) in a vehicle that sits out in the sun all day can and will stain the plastic over time. so when the stuff wears off, your dash and etc. looks like crap making you use it more to get that clean shine again. Car show owners use it at car shows, but as soon as the show is over, they use windex and take it all off until the next show for this reason.

Sweat stains. Your sweat has salt in it making it look whitish. A little cleaner and a towel will clean it.

For the shifter plastic, I use PlastX on it. Takes out scratches. Then I wax it with carnuba. Takes just a few minutes and it keeps it from scratching up.

I just wish our trucks had an auto vacuum feature ...

This stuff will remove black axle grease from light colored seats and carpet without damaging/dis-coloring material. It's amazing. Not cheap though, but then most quality products aren't.

This has handled all the scuffs I've had in my Taco so far. I haven't gotten any gouges, but for everyday type use this has worked.

I also have some minor scuffing on my interior from day to day use. DO NOT try to use a heat gun to remove them... I promise you will make things worse.

I use this product and it works well. It doesn't leave your plastic feeling greasy and leaves a clean, low sheen protected finish that lasts--it also works well at making scuffs less noticeable.
