Car audio installer left a small scratch on the metallic silver trim above my head unit. Very small but I look at it every day. Any good fix to buff this out or cover it up?

They also messed this up. Something I can easily order a replacement of?

The painted plastic is is prone to scratches, it's very weak. I have a couple on rear door handles inside and I almost never have passengers. The plastic cover however on the inside, you can just go to you parts rep at the dealership and I'm sure it will be a few dollars. But the installers should be paying for that, not you. It would make me question the workmanship they did to the electronics that you can't see as well.

Unacceptable work. Go back and have them take care of it. That's why you pay to have it done.

If we can get past they fact they screwed it up and should fix it, is that scratch something I should try and cover or does the whole dash insert have to be replaced?

If you refinished it with some textured finish or sanded it all down and repainted it I think that's about all you can do.

Only fix is replacing damaged parts. Whether you make them fix there mistake or you replace it your self is the only option here unfortunately.

Sounds like the installer owes you:

55476-04010-B1, Center panel trim gunmetal, ~$70
62212-04110-B0, garnish front pillar LH, ~$60

EDIT: Just saw yours is an SR5...55476-04010-B0, Center panel trim silver

    None as of yet
Before you go replacing the dash trim, try using a paint polish or plastic polish on it. It appears to me like it's a mark, or some type of paint/material transfer, not so much a scratch or gouge. If this is the case, a polish or even maybe a clay bar should take this off.

You can also try slow work with a heat gun on the plastic.

Where did you find those part numbers? Can those be ordered online or do I have to go through a dealer?

I use https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com almost always...decent prices and they don't gouge the hell out of you on shipping like some of the others.

Question.. How do I know which of those center trim pieces is correct? Do the SR5 come with Metallic Silver and some other package comes with the Gunmetal? Both fit.

Pro is gunmetal, OR/Sport is either orange or gunmetal (depending on interior color), SR is black, and SR5 is silver.

Car audio installers are fucktards. I had an amp and 12 inch sub installed in my wife’s charger. They indented the spare tire/battery cover in the trunk, didn’t reattach the top cover in trunk, and didn’t tuck carpet back up under the front kick plates. Needless to say, installation was almost free after showing pictures and presenting the car!! Idiots.

OP, use PlastX on that scratch. Will do wonders.

I put a scratch on my dashboard. Interested to see what your fix is so that I can fix mine too.
