I already know why the check engine and trac off lights come on, but has anyone had them go off 100-500 miles after they came on? This is the 2nd time it's happened both after long trips(900+ miles)with severe elevation change(cali to colorado).

What's the code for? Manual or automatic?

It's an 2016 limited, DCSB, Automatic. I didn't bother hooking a code reader up to it this time. Last time the code was for a bad catylitic converter that the dealership replaced under warranty. The last two times I just let it be and it went away. I'm thinking it has something to do with the altitude change.

If the check engine light stays on with an intermittent trac off light, check your gas cap.

    ^This.

The light will reset after about a tank of gas I believe.
I had a similar issue, but light wouldn’t reset. Ended up being leak in the fuel neck to the tank. Repaired under warranty.

I've filled up with the lights on so I figured the taking it off and on for gas would alleviate the problem if it was the cap. The lights randomly go off, like yesterday they went off in the middle of my drive home and came back on 10mins later... I think I'm just going to have to deal with it.

How much would that repair have cost you and how hard of a repair was it? Not sure if I'm out of warranty but the mods I've done most likely void it.

Your mods shouldn’t void an unrelated warranty issue.
I was told the bed had to be removed for the fix they did.

My light was on non stop tho.
If your light is going on and off, you may have a bad cap or bad seal on the cap. I’d try changing that first.

Appreciate the input, so a completely new gas cap is coming. I figured taking it on and off is what everyone meant. This never happened when I was stationed in San Diego, just when I'm back in Colorado...elevation contributing to the problem maybe?

Why don't you see what the code is before just throwing money (parts) at it? Most chain auto parts stores (Autozone, Advance, etc.) will pull the codes for you for free.

If it's the gas cap, it would be one of the evap leak codes. Of course, those codes could also point to something else, not just the gas cap.

I've hooked a code reader up to it twice before and it throws the same code. Its saying the catylitic converter is bad. Had the dealership in colorado replace it the first time cuz it was under warranty, then it threw the same code 2 weeks later when I drove it back to cali. That time I went away for 8 months now it's back and going on and off every few days.
