    Hey Folks,

I've been scouring through the archives on cruise control related issues, but alas I'm still looking for a solution. My truck is a 2001 TRD Automatic V6, with stock Cruise Control. It seems like a lot of folks were able to solve their CC woes through the clutch switch, but since I have an automatic that doesn't work for me.

When I first got the truck CC was working great. One day while engaged it just dropped out on me. Even though the light was still on, I was not able to re-engage. The next day it worked fine. This has gone on for a while, green light goes on, sometimes will engage, sometimes doesn't. Lately it seems less and less likely to even get the green light on.

Horn works fine. And I've tried to engage CC at various points around the steering wheel, and with various placements of the headlight switch, without any effect.

Under the hood I have located what I believe is the control box, on passenger side fender, with electrical cable going in, and throttle cable coming out. Electrical cable seemed fine to visual inspection.

Wondering what else I can check? It seems there may be a switch attached the brake? Or was that also only with Standard xmission?

    Appreciate any tips/help thanks!

Did you check the cable going to the throttle body? Move it by hand and see if there is resistance on it. It may need greasing.

It seemed ok, when I pulled lightly on it, it revved up.

no that isn't your cruise control, that's the vacuum module that the cruise control tells what speed to set it at.

the actual cruise control is a little box that is found behind the passenger kick panel. it could be this cruise control ECM unit or the actual cruse control unit in the steering wheel.

because of the symptoms you describe it sounds to me like its not sending the signal from the switch so I would think your problem is the switch controller inside the steering wheel. test the switch first and if that checks out ok then look at replacing the CC ECM module behind the kick panel

Thanks for the info keakar. Two noobish follow-up questions...

Where is the passenger kick panel? Sounds like it would be inside around the feet area? :D
    -- edit --
looks like a triangle shaped panel on the right side by the passenger foot area

Also wondering how I could test the steering wheel switch? I have a multimeter...
