I'm having that problem where is cranks a lot before starting or doesn't start on the first try.

I know many other people are having this same problem and i was wondering if anyone has heard of a tsb for it for the 09's ?

below is the tsb for the 05-07's :

ETA: EG011-07 JUL 07 Engine Controls - Intermittent No Start Condition

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Take it back to the dealer for warranty coverage.

sounds to me like it's the nature of the beast, but also not normal to those of us not used to it. Newer cars with more computer controlled parts seem to do this. If it was a serious problem, there would be a TSB out for it (after '07).

my 05 tacoma use to have this problem. After I changed
the miss-matched spark plugs from the factory,it's started perfectly since.

Put 6 new Denso plugs in...Problem solved

Had this problem very intermitantly- was told by a mechanic that it was due to the minimal percentage of ethanol in the gas in Canada, but as blazze2005 stated above- once I changed all the plugs to one brand( in my case NGK) no problems- fingers crossed!!!

Add me to the list. I've had this issue about 3 or 4 times in the last couple of months. Doesn't seem to depend on weather, moisture or outside temp. The Tacoma never started as fast as my old Chevy but was fine. This is a whole other thing and definitely not normal. If it gets worse it'll have to go in to the dealer, I suppose. Mine is a 2009 with about 18k miles....

I have a 2010 with less than 10k on the odometer and this has happened to me a couple times. One time where it cranked and cranked and wouldn't start on the first try. I turned it off and tried again, it cranked for a couple sec then started. Other times it cranks for a couple sec before starting.

It's actually pissing me off cause it's so new. If it happens again, I'm going back to the dealer and make them do something about it.

X2, my truck has not started(on the first try) twice, and two other times its cranked slightly longer than usually...kinda weird considering its a 2010 with 2k miles...

Mine did it one time.....1300 miles from home.....in a construction zone sitting in a line of cars in the middle of nowhere:eek: Turned the key to start, cranked for 10 seconds with absolutely no sign of life at all. Turned key off, then back on, fired right up. Ran all the way home no problems. Five months later, still hasn't happened again.

That tsb I believe is part of the emmissions warranty, 7 years? I was going to ask to have it done, but scared to let the dealer mess with it now since it's running great.

I've had my 2010 for a year and it's done this a couple of times. It will turn over and turn over, but not start. When I turn it off and try again, it fires right up.

The problem hasn't been nearly frequent enough to warrant wasting hours at the dealership for them to shrug and say they "can't find anything wrong".

Mine starts fine when its cold, but after it warms up the starter turns over twice as long to start. Not a problem and it has never failed to start just seems odd that it takes longer to start after its warmed up?

Took mine it today to have the tsb done for excessive cranking. It only happened twice in the past year, so i took it in and they did the update, the tech said that there is also a tsb on the transmission shifting so i said go for it and do it, all covered under warranty and did not cost me a dime. Will keep posted if it ever happens again.

Add me to this list as well. My 2009 did this a couple times right after I bought it, and it's been doing it again lately. Went almost 9 months without it doing it at all. I took it to the dealer, and they "couldn't duplicate the problem". I'm not concerned about the truck necessarily, it's just frustrating. Mine also seems to be slightly flooded when it does start (runs rough for 1-2 seconds) which makes sense.

Glad to know this happens to other people as well, and it's not just my truck. My best guess is that the key could have something to do with it, because my Dad's Xterra does the exact same thing, and it's with 1 key only.
