Hi all. I am having a problem with the radio on my 2012 Taco where sometimes I get into my truck and the radio wont turn on and other times it works fine. Its been going on for about a year now and I haven't seen any patterns like only broken when raining, or hot etc. Seems completely random. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am hoping it is a loose connection or something. I don't figure it is a fuse since those issues are usually not intermittent. thanks in advance for your help!

I have been having the same problem. I have a 2012 and I can't find a pattern as to when it will happen or what may be causing it. My problem presents itself a few different ways. Sometimes my display will go off but the radio is still on and I can't control anything on it. Other times the radio will be on and the the display dims so low that I can barely see it, but I can still control it. And I also experience what you have and it won't turn on at all. I have just lived with it. It doesn't happen all the time and I would say that the diming occurs the most. I don't have a solution and will probably just replace it with something aftermarket when it goes completely out or I can't live with it anymore.

Have either of you tried percussive maintenance????

Intermittent troubles are frequently wire related or inside the HU.

2014... different unit but the OEM head units in our Gen II's are know to have random problems. Shutting off, restarting, etc.
    It's a feature!

    Hit it.

Seriously, don't. There is likely a bad electrical connection somewhere.

Had the same problem with my head unit restarting, disconnecting from my phone, etc. 2014 TRD OR w/ Nav. Downloading and installing a software update from Toyota fixed the issue entirely.

I know this is an old thread, but i have a 2012 Prerunner with the exact same radio as the original poster with the exact same problem. Most common would be the screen flashing on and off for a few seconds usually right after i start it up and more noticibly on cold days. Now today the power went completely off. After checking all the fuses were fine, i angrily gave the power button a little kinetic adjustment with my knuckle and it works fine again....for now. I checked for software updates and it says there are no updates to this basic radio. Anyone know wth is wrong with these 2012-2015 radios?

Yeah, they’re 8-10 years old. Dirt, heat/thaw cycles and humidity are killers for electronics. www.Crutchfield.com will fix your issues.

What he said, eventually it'll get about anything electronics. I have a pair of nice old-ish Alpine decks I've moved between a few vehicles, and the one in my wife's car will occasionally glitch out for a sec when you hit a button.
