You should bring it to your dealer and have them download the code. Apparently, the ECU will store the error code information for a few days until it get overwritten. The error code however will not point to the exact problem but it's good to have this documented as it's really hard to reproduce.

seems odd to me they would just replace the battery. they can test the battery under load and determine if it is good or bad.

i would have suspected one of the switches/sensors/contacts mentioned in another post. the push button start, park and brake pedal engagement, and associated wiring are where i would focus.

Edit: I use to troubleshoot and repair electro/mechanical systems and most intermittent electrical issues were caused by a loose or poorly made connection, or a bad contactor/switch.

I am having a similar issue right now - 2022 Tacoma SR5. I’ve had zero problems other than it randomly deciding to not start. It cranks and the battery runs perfect, so I’m beginning to think it’s a fuel pump issue (I’m not mechanically inclined at all). Toyota tells me nothing is wrong with it at all because they apparently got it to start right away the first time I brought it in. But this time…I took video on 2 separate occasions showing that it wouldn’t start. Having it towed in tomorrow and I’m honestly thinking about selling it right away if it decides to start up again. Toyota’s response to the last time it was brought in left much to be desired, and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever buy one again.

The CEL is always on when the truck is on but the engine isn't started. That's why it doesn't have a code they can read, and why one isn't stored in memory.

Are you positive you are pressing brake and then starting?

***important update to my similar issue***

Fortunately the truck wouldn’t start in front of the service manager and staff. They started diagnosing it and found that the main relay was bad. Apparently it’s a simple fix - they ordered the part and it should be all done tomorrow.

Idk if your issue is the same as mine, but it would be worth a shot letting them know about my situation

Great News. Glad they figured it out for you. We have to ask. Are you now a fan of Toyota?

Well it’s not running just yet, so I’ll remain not a fan for the time being, and probably a little while after until I know the issue is permanently gone
