Hey guys, it's been a while. How've ya all been?

I have an '09 base. I installed the intermittent wiper stalk mod late 2011/early 2012 (I don't remember exactly when). In Feb. of 2012 I had to replace the wiper motor. It started making a grinding noise one day and then just quit working.

Well, a couple of days ago the replacement motor started making the same noise. I already had a service appt. schedule so I mentioned to the tech I think something's wrong with the wiper motor. He said they would check it out.

He came back and said the motor is bad and needs replaced.

My question is - Has anyone had multiple wiper motor failures after installing the intermittent wiper mod? It seems as though two motors in two years is a bit much. The first was covered under warranty but this one is on my dime. The motor itself is approx. $250.

    Thanks!

    -Bob

That's really weird. Maybe there is a voltage problem.

I'd check the wiper "transmission" AKA linkage, pivots to make sure everything moves freely. Also, I'f you get snow in your neck of the woods, make sure the wipers are off when you park the truck - starting the truck with a snow covered windshield stalls the motor and is murder on the motor. I am certain the issue you are having has nothing to do with the intermittant wiper mod.

I didn't think the wiper mod would cause the motor to fail but you never know. Best to ask around and see what others' experience is.

It may be a voltage problem. What happens is that the motor makes a grinding noise and the blade speed eventually slows down until they don't work at all.

We'll see how long the replacement lasts. I should probably try an aftermarket one but I thought maybe I could get the one I have replaced under warranty. But the part has a one year warranty.

    Oh well.......

I doubt it is the actual motor that is going bad. The " Grinding Noise" points more to the wiper transmission issue than a motor problem.

The dealer is more than likely replacing the motor and transmission as a set and is just calling it the motor.

I do not think it has anything to do with the wiper mod.
