Just purchased a 98 Xtracab limited with the v6 161,000 to work on with my son. It's not too rough but we are working some things out.

We will be going through the oil, brake flush/eval, plugs etc and look forward to learning with this forum.

I am curious if anyone recognizes the knob to the right of the ECT switch.

I have no idea what it does.

Thanks in advance and thanks for all of the knowledge.

Aftermarket. Probably something related to the toggle switch down below. Something for an aftermarket subwoofer, or related to a trailer or something like that.

Thank you. I will see what it connects to. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything basic.

23MGM beat me to it. Yep! Not OEM but no idea what it is. I was also thinking subwoofer volume control.

Nice truck and welcome to TW!

Nice looking tacoma, as other have said its not OEM. Recommend that you check the ball joints.

I have not really dealt with ball joints before. The steering is really tight without any wander. Is there a special concern on these or symptom that I should look for? Thanks

The ball joints are weak spot for the Gen 1 Tacomas.

When they fail at speed it can be really bad. Others will chime in on how long the ball joints should last and how to test them. Also most will say only replace with OEM ball joints.

Lower ball joints inspection manly. They like to fail with little warning. I think service manual said change every 70,000. With bigger rims and tires I would check them every other oil change.
