Hello everyone out there in Tacoma World:
After reading a few posts I do get the impression that you are mostly customizers while I am not. I bought my first pick-up in 1969, a 1967 3/4 ton 4 X 4 GM. That machine had been badly abused by a guardian of the wilderness, a game warden. At 28000miles the 292cu in. engine was smoking and the front differential was cracked. Well, we were able to do a welding job on that cast differential and it got me a lot of places my car would not take me to. In those my younger days I did a lot of hunting, mostly for elk and that truck got me into a fair number of mires and also out of them. I owned a couple more of these heavy GMs and when I gave up on elk in the early 80s I bought my first Tacoma 2 x 4. It was for sure a better built machine and oh, the fuel consumption was heaven sent , but I did have to stay out of the swamp. I eventually owned 3 more Tacoma 2 X 4s and then took up fishing for trout in creeks way back where. After getting stuck a few times I did get a Tacoma 4 X 4 2011. Nice, I did not get stuck anymore, but by now getting to be an old guy I did not take as many chances anymore either.
Of course the fuel consumption was pretty much back to the old GM times. I checked originally into this site because both Tacoma's in our family have fuel door issues and the Toyota service people are just shrugging their shoulders. I also had with both units (a 2009 and the 2011 4 X 4) problems getting the license plate lites knocked out presumably from getting hit by flying gravel. The Toyota people said they would fix them once on their bill and after that it was my responsibility to do something about it and this while still under warranty. I do believe you can't get much more customer unfriendly. One more similar issue and I will be back to a North American truck.
    Greetings, Waxsmith
