I would just monitor Ford closely to make sure they don't cut the dividend, and make sure the share price doesn't slide too much. I don't think it will, auto companies are cyclical so they go up and down a lot. As long as the share price and dividend stay where they are you're getting a pretty good cash return.

the thing is Ford should be releasing a ton of updated popular vehicles soon. their vehicle generations are coming to an end i believe.

The F-150 alone should carry them just fine.

I didn't panic in December, but your sentiments mirror mine waiting for that next dip to jump back in.

Here was the best quote from that linked article:

“It doesn’t work because bear markets are rare, because severe declines are rare,” he told me. “So as you wait around and build up cash to buy the next dip, the market is often rising, leaving you behind.”

I think the part of that study that makes it unrealistic is that the hypothetical investors couldn’t sell. The “buy the dip” guy is certainly trying to sell at the top. I’m not saying to try to time the market, but if you could sell after a good bear market buy, then sit out again, it may change things.

This is true, and does skew the data. I'm sure if they were able to sell, they would have beaten the DCA - but it's hard to know when to buy/sell, and it still might be close to DCA when you do buy low/sell high in reality

I work nights, got up to throw a whiz, checked the markets and said " not this shit again?!"
Went back to sleep and woke up to see a complete turn around. Nice.

I mean you can calculate his total portfolio value with the percentage and amount.

I wouldn’t be surprised at the people who don’t know the way to solve for his portfolio. I won’t say it on here of course. It took me a second to remember. :anonymous:

Sorry if this is an annoying, but I have a few questions, and i've been googling a bunch, but I figured I'd ask though here. What do you think of certificates? My credit union is celebrating an anniversary and offering a 5 month certificate at 9% APY. Not too sure if this is too good to be true, or if I should just grab one. Also, a ROTH IRA. I just turned thirty, and have not set anything up for retirement, and don't have any 401k through my work. Is it a smart idea to invest in one?
