Why does the share price matter?

Yea I guess, but the percentage it increases is all I would look for.

One exception would be Amazon, if they did a 10-1 split and brought share price down to around $160, I might buy a few.

Yes it does. I am not willing (I don't want) to buy $1,600 worth of Amazon. It doesn't pay dividends so I don't want that big of a position. If they split it, I'd buy a few shares just to gamble on possible growth. How does that not make sense?

Edit: Same with Google. I don't want to tie $1,000+ in a non dividend paying stock. I'd buy a few hundred dollars worth if they split it.

the symbol is BP on the NYSE, that's exactly what I said on the dividend I used it to invest a 2018 IRA contribution, I might buy some more for a 2019 contribution

I started a position in IRM today. It is a very solid company and pays about a 7% dividend right now. Definitely worth checking out if anyone likes income.

I'm loving that dividend but what does it mean that the div per share is higher than earnings per share? Am I reading that correctly?

It is a REIT (recently converted), so numbers like that have to be taken differently than a regular company. All REITs have to pay out at least 90% of their profits as dividends. Just look at IRM's dividend coverage, I don't think they have missed a payment since converting to a REIT, and have increased frequently.

I like this website for researching REITs: https://www.reitnotes.com/reit/Iron-Mountain-Inc/symbol/IRM

I thought they were the document shredding place (my office uses them)? I am not liking the fact that they have $7.6 billion in debt and it's nearly doubled since 2015.

I will look into the debt situation, I appreciate that.

I think they do shredding, but that's a very small part of the company. They have 1,400 properties. Here are the things they do: records management, data management, cloud services, document management, data centers, art storage and logistics, and secure shredding.

It is a very interesting REIT, because most REITs own some buildings that they rent out. Iron Mountain is a REIT of information, which I really like considering that's the direction the world seems to be going.

Ah, yes I was confused- my office uses them for offsite document storage, not shredding.

They are legit, been in business since 1951. I get nervous buying these high flying companies that are <10 years old, but I feel more comfortable with something that's been around a while.
