It seems all of the stocks I have that normally do bad are up big, the good ones are all down. There’s definitely opportunity somewhere.

You'll be proud of this, but I made a % of my future retirement contributions go to VDIGX which is a big dividend fund.

Turn on DRIP if you can. At least when the market does bad, you'll be getting a return (and buying shares at a discount).

If anyone is interested.. I am slowly starting a position in a Business Development Company called ARCC. It currently pays about an 8.5% dividend. It is a very large company, so not too worried about it going under during the next recession. It appears to be undervalued at the moment as well. Its dividend payment history has been consistent.

I have about 75% of my portfolio in conservative blue-chip stocks, so I have no problem starting positions like this without too much worry.

Prediction of the low this time around: 2,650

If Trump wants to use the economy and market as a basis for reelection, he might want to fix this soon. It's basically flat since late 2017/early 2018. Not something to brag about.

On a positive note, I have been waiting for this. I wanted to see how my portfolio performs compared to the market. Today, I am down 1.7% compared to the market at 2.2%. That is pretty good. I'm also up about 15% on the year (well maybe not after today), so I think I am ready for the next 40%+ broad market drop to see how I do!

I gotta think something stellar is gonna occur come election time. Too many people with money getting tired of miniscule gains.

I think we have quite a ways to go down still. Of course I could be wrong, but I have a bad feeling about this one! There is no possible redemptive factor until September (next meeting with China), and that will probably be a disaster.

I have a feeling the tariffs are going to get exponentially worse as we near the 2020 election. China thinks they will just procrastinate and kick the can down the road until then, hoping for a change of presidency. However, if that is their hedge, Trump will likely anticipate such a thing and will make life a hell of a lot worse for them, the longer they continue to beat around the bush. That is why new tariffs were announced recently. It will only get worse.

Put a couple of bear call spreads down yesterday, but other than that I'm biding my time, and being patient...

I do have a couple of positions that I would like to roll out of if we are gonna have a broad drop.

I do have a position on AMD that I am trying to figure the best way to roll out of. I might get a bump out of it which will allow me to make a nice move, but I much prefer holding dividend stocks (or cash) when the market is on the move to the downside. NKE put the hurt on me though. I anticipated a small dip, but not an $8 move. We'll get there, but I just have to ride for a bit.

What a week it has been in the markets! It has been one hell of a path to get to about break even, or maybe even up a little. Perfect V bottom again, just like in May.

Yup. Played this one wrong. Placed a bear call spread on TXN thinking we'd dribble off for a minute. It won't but as long as I can stay under $125 for a bit I'll come out money ahead. Just need some more time to cruise by.

Wild week for my long positions though!

I expected a much deeper drop. I don't make those kind of bets, I just stay long and add, but I would have bet on a much bigger correction based on how this started.

I saw a pretty cool quote the other day, something like this: Think of the stock market as a guy going up an escalator with a yo-yo, don't focus on the yo-yo, focus on the guy going up the escalator.
