@dan0mite how do I get the real time data on ToS? I opened up a regular version (not the paper money) but it's saying data is delayed

omg, CHK is the worst. It's the only thing lately that's been a drag on my mix. Everything else has had 5-10% returns. Lame.

just edited my post, yahoo has their chart up. You can trade on robinhood but no chart on there atm, their charts are useless anyways

I missed the breakout on SLS because I was watching something else but I got in after the big pullback. I locked in my profits tight because of the market trend and got stop lossed for a 4% gain. If I wouldn’t have made it so tight I could’ve rode it up for 10+%. Green is green and always honor your stop loss!

I did all the hoop jumping with account setup before downloading ToS and my live account was real-time. I did a customer service chat through ToS to get the paper trading to real-time so I imagine you can do the same for both.

I ended up never paper trading and went live off the bat.

 

Whats the hoop jumping? I had the account setup and everything so I'm not really sure why it didnt go live. I guess ill just open one of the customer service live chats through ToS and get them to set it up for me.

yeah, rule #1 is if a company releases good earnings, you likely won't reap the reward after. The price will change too much before market open, then it will drop because people will be cashing out. Unless you are lucky or you're long on a stock and you have holdings in a stock before earnings report, you will be along for the ride (whether that's up or down).

If you're going to trade something after earnings in order to make some money, I would do it when a company releases less-than-expected earnings. That way you can get in when folks are buying up a stock after the share price fell significantly between market close and the next opening. For instance, AOBC after their earnings would have been a steal, because their outlook was poor, but people are betting that gun sales are up and they will have a good next quarter. For other companies, the stock may briefly rise, then continue to fall over time. It just depends on sentiment.

It's rare that a stock will open with a big gain and then continue to go up when the market actually opens. Only way to get around that is to get access to pre-market/after-hours trading. Most companies release earnings when the market is closed. That means that most normal folks that only trade during normal hours need to be lucky, or have insider knowledge (illegal)

That being said, sometimes a stock will float higher after the initial selloff after good earnings, but that could take a few days or weeks to happen.
