I currently have a managed portfolio, so I am just along for the ride. It's tempting to try to play the market though with the way things are going. Then again, with my luck, probably not a good idea..

I have a managed portfolio as well with a good chunk of money, I figured I’d play around with about $1000 on my own though

I just have some play money that I mess around with. I just pulled all of my money from Acorns and shut down my "round ups". Acorns only netted me 3% all time.. that's over like two years. Really lame. Moved all the money into Robinhood.

The only good thing about Acorns these days is their little email newsletters.

I have been wanting to do exactly what you 2 are doing, open a new account to mess around with, maybe start with $1k. I am just afraid I will piss myself off, if I lose it then I'm pissed, if I turn it into $10k, I will wish I played around with a much bigger amount lol

I try not to get too upset with it. If I start losing a lot then I’ll get out. But if i stay within 200-300 then it’s whatever. Fun learning experience

I hear ya. Just gotta know when to sell and when to buy. I usually tell myself I'll sell something at X prices (whether up or down), and buy at X price. Takes the emotion out of it.. a little

I have learned that I get far more jumpy when I have more skin in the game. I've trade 3x as much as I did when I had much less money to mess around with. It had ended up costing me vs just being patient. A few times it's saved me though

You know the little point of sale system you see at all the new businesses and hipster places? The ones with iPads and you sign on the iPad.. That's square. They are basically a no-nonsense payment processing system. It can also be used to process card payments on your phone via a card reader dongle. Lots of small business owners use it

You should look at their one year chart.

They also seem to be somewhat tied to crypto.

You are buying on margin... just kidding, I am sure it is just letting you "buy" before the money clears. I would look at the fine print for your brokerage to see when you actually "own" it. It would be shitty if they're making you wait until the money clears, there's no telling what the price can do in that time..?

Might be a good idea. Not sure how much longer this little bull run will continue.

Dumped my shares of BPTH. Lost a few bucks but I was tired of seeing it drop day after day

When you guys are messing around with things like Square, do you set to up to sell automatically if it drops below a certain price, or do you just try to monitor it and sell if it gets too low? Or hold through the low times and sell when it rebounds?

If it starts trending down, I'll set a stop loss or sell if I break 10% loss. Otherwise I look at th charts and set a limit order. Right now my limit order is $60. That'll be a 52 week high and I would expect it to correct after and fall a little. Buy back in a repeat so long as the company continues to forge ahead.
