Did all right with the short ETFs, but I sold everything just before close today.
Back on the sidelines waiting and watching.

Any thoughts on that billionaire’s idea to shut down the whole country for 30 days? A pandemic starts with 1 person. So on day 31, we return to normal, and it won’t start all over if 1 person has it? Some of these ideas are just wacky.

This was the best thing I ever heard:

    > “America will end as we know it. I’m sorry to say so, unless we take this option,” he said
    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/bil...res-to-save-the-economy-shut-it-down-now.html

What a doof. Fear mongering at its finest, chances are more fear means more selling means he'll buy lower than it would otherwise and then increase his fortune. It's the end of the world as we know it - China reopened after ~2 months, we're 1 month in, so in another month we should be on the upswing rebound anyway. But no, let's tell everyone we need to close down the country and that it's the president's fault if he doesn't. Okay dude. :rasta:

Anyway, I did also see this o_O
    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/nys...lectronic-trading-because-of-coronavirus.html

Interested to see how that works out. Might see a dramatic shift in how trading works if this works well?

So you think theyll blame their economy tanking on this instead of other factors?
Or more of a way to easily kill off a few hundred people they dont like very quickly and with a plausible explanation.
Maybe it's to stop all the protest they've been pissed about lately, or kill the protesters if they keep gathering up.

There are plenty of theories. The Hong Kong protests, reducing the population of old people who aren’t contributing. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but China using a biological weapon against its own people isn’t too hard to believe to me.

I have taken several college classes in infectious agents, public health and others related to Emergency Management. The case study we did was on a flu virus and the outcomes of something with no herd immunity. Professor told us we we were dreadfully unprepared for a simple flu and recommended saving any extra Zpacks, antivirals we ever saw. Undoubted from a overcrowded country with bad food practices. This was years ago.

The numbers may be ultimately be less than other outbreaks due to aggressive action. Spanish flu is a different animal as it killed those with healthy immune systems rather than weak. But we have a larger and older population and faster travel than every other major outbreak before. it’s the real deal.

If everyone did what they were supposed to the virus wouldn’t spread as it has been. But my job security is human stupidity. You can absolutely count on a high enough percent of the population to be either selfish or to meet Cipolla’s definition and theory of stupid.

I’m just wondering when to push the throttle down here. Iv been out since before this mess. I’m thinking I should wait till a underlying bubble is documented and announced.

Until they built 2 hospitals in 3 weeks, shut a city of 11million down and then had a 90+% recovery rate, and they are writing papers on it and helping other countries respond to it. Why dont people ever just think that shit happens? That place is a petri dish with people stacked ontop of each other eating anything with a pulse.

If it was a bioweapon, there would be a vaccine/cure for it and it would kill people alot quicker and faster.

The more plausible consperiacy theory is look at the Feds actions leading up to the events of recently.

I think when it comes out that 3 or 4 major metro areas are on lockdown like we see inItaly, where you can only leave to get groceries. That'll be a good time to start buying, after a week of that when people see that while it's not good, it's also not the end of the world, and that should really slow down the spread of new cases. Around that week I think things will level out. I think each day of uncertainty is just going to drive things lower until then. I think well have a small upswing to the levels were at now and stay mostly flat from there until the middle of summer and things will bounce back pretty quick

The vaccine will magically be produced in China with no understood ill effects. In 2 years we will find out it causes sterility. The Chinese take over the world without dropping a bomb in a century.

Some stocks worth buying at discounts ... I like CZR , cheapest it's ever been and I can see it going up threefold (atleast) when casino's and sports are back in business. Also like Jet Blue.

    What about death related SCI?

I have already decided I’m going a standard spread of index funds and maybe a larger than typical small Cap. I have no illusions I will be smart enough to beat the market, I just want to jump back in at an OK place. I will probably do a couple small ones myself just for the incentive to keep from going stale on the ideas of investing but my game is a long game. Or a new sailboat whichever comes first.

I am strongly considering throwing $1,000 at Carnival Cruise Lines, and completely ignoring it for a while. It’s not my investing style, but seems like a no brainer.

I dont have "real money" to throw in the stock market, but inam going to go through and pick about 500 to 1k of random shares to buy soon. Not to flip or sell, but to hold onto for a while. I see Ford is super cheap, I plan on finding some cheap cruise lines, and now seeing the czr posted above, maybe a few shares of that. Any other good recommendations? I'm just going to buy some well known staples that should pop back up after this passes. Also a few like two to three of boeing. It's super cheap right now.
