You guys buying individual equities scare me. If you really do your research then fine, but I personally think having your equity exposure in passive index funds and your fixed income exposure in active mutual funds is the way to go (you just don't get enough bang for your buck with the extra fees active equity funds charge but active fixed income funds it makes sense because the benchmarks are not actually investable - meaning you couldn't recreate the exact benchmark exposure even if you tried). Also fixed income investing presents a lot of opportunities for fund managers to get in on new issues at a discount, which you can't get as an individual investor nor would you get those benefits if you're in a passive fixed income fund. That's really where fixed income fund managers earn their fees, which are lower than equities to begin with.

I have most of my IRA money in IVV (S&P 500 ETF which has no commission to trade it at Fidelity) and then I bought a couple other concentrated ETFs like FNCL (because I've been bullish on financials for a while so I am essentially over-weighting them by buying additional exposure to FNCL). I also bought some AAPL, which is the only individual equity I own because it was paying over 2% annualized dividend at the price I bought it at and I saw more upside than downside. My 401k is limited in terms of options so I have that all in the Vanguard total stock market.

Be careful all, looking at the chart of the Dow at close today, it’s lower lows and lower highs over the past 6 trading days. Today closed slightly higher than the low of Tuesday, and also made a new low for the week midday.

Remember also, Tuesday had a 550 point rebound after a 1k drop, today was a 330 rebound after a 1k drop. See a pattern? No bueno.

Market doesn’t goes straight up or down

I'm thinking of increasing my 401k contribution during this weakness and then lowering it back down once we get back to new highs. It's annoying I can't just make one-time contributions to my 401k and I can't make any tax deductible Traditional IRA contributions because I'm over the income limit.

I was thinking the same thing, after looking at the VTRLX it's dropped below what it was priced at in October.

It may or may not be a dip. Come Wednesday morning when the CPI data comes out, it’ll confirm or reverse the downward trend from the past week, and that’ll pretty much be the direction the market goes moving forward.

Low inflation will mean (probably) higher interest rates from the Fed, correct?

I would think that Robinhood wouldn't give us both a free share if you didn't fully set it up.. i could see people exploiting it otherwise

Higher inflation = plunge in stock market

If the CPI is 1.9 or higher, look out below. If it’s 1.8 or less, things should settle down.

I thought if inflation was low, there would be increased risk of Fed interest rate hikes.. sounds like you could spin both outcomes as negative.

Gonna get ugly if oil builds keep occurring. API just report a bigger than expected build in oil storages this past week. If the EIA confirms tomorrow, look out below!!!

Yeah, unfortunate that this natural gas company follows oil so closely. Oil has lots of room to go down

Yep, that's the struggle. Faltering companies are risky but have a lot of upside.. sometimes you just don't know unless you're working there
