    that's why I set limit sells on stuff haha, if it's meant to be short term, if it hits a price i'm good with it's gone. have a few that may not hit for the next 6 months and others that might next week or two.

    FYI...I just started sweating at work here...the Funds closed for the day and in the 2 days I am in UBVAX it closed +$2.42 (6.09%) and then today +$2.19 (5.19%)...HOLY SHIT...50% of my 401K went up 11% in 2 days :)

    I don’t like to brag about my returns. I prefer to point out when I sell prematurely so everyone can laugh at the money I could have made. I might buy NRGU just so I can sell it at 15 and you can all laugh as it continues to 40. I’m willing to do that for you :cheers:

    Nice man. I'm just watching NVDA drop like a rock. I have 4 June $290 calls left in my IRA. I've already sold 8 and locked in a 58% return even if the current ones expire worthless. I don't think they will but the last 2 days I did not expect. It's got a lot of ground to reclaim in 17 trading days. The volume has been well over 50% of the ten day average the last two days so I'm sure it's big money powering it down to buy back in. Just hope they buy back in sooner rather then later.


    First, never sweat trades that are already executed. Be happy with any profit taking and learn from any losses. Constantly looking back on how you could have made more will drive you insane and most likely cause a big loss on the future.

    Second, if you want to avoid loosing out on profit you can set stop losses. Once a trade is profitable, and you don't need the funds for something else, just set a stop loss at whatever percent you'd be happy with. If you use a trailing stop it's even better. A trail will reset the loss percentage or dollar figure after the stock goes up.

    Let's say you bought NAIL at $10. At $12 you decide your stoked on a 20% gain. Let's also say you don't need the funds to invest in another postion. If you set a stop loss at 12 bucks and NAIL goes down that stop loss triggers and you have your 20%. If it goes up to $13 and back down to $12 that stop loss still triggers but you missed out on more profit.

    Instead set a trailing stop. At $12 you decide that you'd be fine with 15% gains but you think the stock will move higher before it moves lower. You set a trailing stop with a 5% trail. The stock goes to $13. The trail is dragged up to 5% of $13 or 65 cents. If the stock goes back to $12 your trailing stop sells at $12.35. Let's say the stock moves to $20 then falls. Now, your trail sells at 5% of $20 which is $19. Depending on your platform you can set a trailing stop with a fixed dollar amount or a percentage. You set them as Good Till Cancel, which is a 60 day max with E-trade. Basically, they are an idiot proof way to lock in profits. It's why I use them. lol

    Totally agree. I don’t care how high it goes after I sell. I always set the price where I’ll sell and I stick to it. The money goes right back into something else. It’s all in fun, I bought nail around 15 and sold at 20, it dropped under 15 again, I bought and sold it around 20 again. Other people bought and held the whole time and are now being rewarded. As long as you stick to your strategy, you can live with the results.
