I'm cautiously optimistic and averaged in at $4.23. I think we'll see much improvement (above $6), by Independence Day

We might have different approaches longterm/shorterm/dividends etc I bet you all of us planners, investors, everyone watching this forum didn't have shit just handed to us. That's why were here and not posting about our new TRD pro or Raptor lol. Best thing my parents ever did for me was make me work for what I wanted!

So true. I can't get excited about a new vehicle that includes a 72 month payment book!

Same with those $2k suspension "upgrades". Park the paid off truck and take a $2k vacation every year.

I don't see myself ever buying a new vehicle...I'll take a 2 year old previously owned any day...Let them take the depreciation...Got my 2010 Tacoma in 2013 with 78K on it...I'm at 180K now 7 years later. I'd like to drive it at least 10 years and that makes 6 years without payments. Before that it was a 1999 Civic EX that I bought for cash and drove for 13 years..I've had 2 cars since graduating college in 1998....and spent a total of $35K on vehicle purchases. I know SOOOO many people who do the new car every 3 or 4 years...so over that same amount of time they've had 5 or 6 cars...with a $4,000 to $6,000 immediate depreciation AND the massive excise tax for new vehicles in MA...BIG difference...I get called 'Frugal'...

Indeed. I've had a personal "rule" that if I can't pay off in 48 months or less, I'm buying too much vehicle.

I also keep making a "car payment" even after paid off -- it's depreciating asset, so I keep a payment against that as part of my budget. Makes for a much better loan to value when buying the replacement since I tend to keep a good while.

Don't reject the idea out of hand - While I generally aim for ~2 year old off-lease vehicles, I've sometimes bought new (or new/leftover).

Run the numbers and see which makes the most sense given your expected ownership term, loan rates, availability of what you want vs cost to reconfigure, etc. Most often yes, an off-lease vehicle will likely be the better choice - but sometimes you can snag a pretty nice new deal.

Tacoma, T4R, and Wrangler can make sense to buy new. If I went for an 18 instead of a 20, first off I would need a new head unit nearly ASAP. Otherwise the truck is fine, but maybe swap for the newer grille or an SR, whatever. BUT, an 18 Tacoma is about 1k less than my new 20 Tacoma was (maybe a bit more since I was impatient and bought in December....oops). When you factor in 2 years of service, warranties, and the depreciation of a Tacoma vs. wear and tear.....a new tacoma makes sense.

That said, the only way I'll buy a new tacoma again is if the 4th gen has a plug in hybrid option, and I like it, and it makes sense to buy (IE: I got an OR but next time, I'll be going for base trim, the goodies are nice but I'd be just as happy in an SR, if the hybrid is a pro option or uptrim only, nevermind!).

Anyway futures flat. So far I was decently on point for this week - up slightly or flat (I consider yesterday flat overall). Friday sell off and I'll be spot on :D (I hope I'm wrong).

Oh we're back to futures down this morning. When I posted it was about -50 DOW so I'd call that flat or near enough to flat. Just checked and we're at -300. So. Yee Haw! DOWN DAY HOLD ONTO YOUR BRITCHES!

edit: BNKU anyone? NRGU's counterpark for banks instead of oil. Debating about swapping some shares out of NRGU for it.

VERY low volume on average...it's been high volume lately with >100K traded...on avg 70K shares traded...NRGU avg 3,000,000...That being said banks are very beat down right now and a good long term investment..but the buy in cost is 3 to 4x per share that of NRGU and as a gamble I'm betting oil for a bigger recovery...if I had MORE money to spend I might diversify...

BTW I cancelled my $4.50 buy and moved it to $4.25 yesterday on NRGU...I think I'm setting it for $4.15-$4.00 today...In case it dips hard at open...

I hate you all. (Crying into my 4.70 average in). Well. 4.55 but I gapped with a stop loss because I’m still a bit new to this :p

I thought I saw oil futures up like a cent this morning, so it might not crater. It could, but I’m thinking it’ll be a level day. Or not. Who knows.

Msft is in competition right now with zoom and a few others to get the top dog position in teleconferencing. I’ve used zoom and webex but not the Microsoft platform but I’ve heard it’s actually a well integrated system with the office environment. Once one big company comes out that they’re using one or the other, the shares are probably going to reflect that on both sides. Zoom has a good platform, msft has the resources. Probably a safe investment (always is, it’s Microsoft....)

I have been noticing something funny lately. The mainstream media has been pushing the narrative that "car ownership is over!" It was all about ride sharing and public transit, being green, all that BS. Now, the coronavirus has everyone avoiding ride sharing and mass transit, "car ownership is back!" Hahaha can't wait to see the narrative 1, 3, 5 years from now.

Won’t need transportation as nobody will work in offices or go to restaurants or malls and groceries will be delivered. Right?
