There is a lot written on exactly that. That’s why the other day when they were talking about a lot of funds expected to move money from stocks to bonds, and it could move the markets. But then they also said much of that may have already happened after the early June highs. So maybe it would t do much now. Even when they have an idea that might be correct, they don’t really know. If anyone did know what caused these things before it happens, I’d like to be friends with them.

 

Based on the math, you will very likely know after tomorrow if 6 next Thursday is in play realistically

@Boyk1182 any idea why IRM has struggled so much this week? Just the prolonged drop after ex div or have you see suggestions they may cut next quarter? It’s yielding at 10 again, I’d be lying if I said that didn’t tempt me to sprinkle a little more in there. It’s not exactly like any other industry I’m invested in.

 

I don’t know. If you go to Seeking Alpha and look at all of the recent articles on IRM, it’s all suggestions to buy this yield. I haven’t seen any solid argument that they’ll cut or suspend the dividend. I am watching this one closely though.

Yea it’s interesting for sure. There’s not a lot of upside to the stock price if they do cut dividend, but there’s enough room that I wouldn’t expect a real loss on the shares I’d buy at this price. It hasn’t been this cheap in a month, and it’s not too far above its low point in all this. Maybe people just dumped it after ex div and it’s just not getting picked up yet. And if it was bought low they could be taking profits out with the markets looking shaky. Who knows.

 

Nice surprise. Up 3.3% today. Time to research why my 12,000 shares of ZOM were up 22%...maybe just a sector bump.

 

Banks are getting crushed after hours due to the stress test. So far I don’t think dividends have been cut, but buy backs have been voluntarily suspended (that may have been a while ago). I wonder how bad it will get for the big banks.

 

They did the voluntary buyback suspension earlier, and the reports from the stress tests were actually pretty good. Them being told they may not raise dividends and continue no buybacks for now and will be reviewed again later seems to have gotten all the press. I think some banks like wfc were going to cut dividends anyway. This is all if things go really poorly they are making sure banks are prepared

Yeah or DPST if there's a big drop pre-market...
I was looking at it as a longer play with the banks getting beaten down...It reverse split 1:10 earlier so the corrected share price is about 1/10...It was trading at $51 a share pre-covid and fell to $3 and they reverse split it to make that $3 into $30...so the pre looks like $500+ but that's not a realistic price...But a slow banking recovery with leverage, or a beat down day it's a good buy in.
Obviously BNKU is more affordable...

So I was doing some after hours research on this...actually reading the prospectus...and it seems like one of the worst things you can do is to call the notes as an owner. You must redeem in lots of 25,000. There is a 0.125% charge. You cannot rescind the call...It's just not ever worth doing with actual shares trading. It would only seem to be an option if the share demand fell to zero and you have 100's of thousands of shares....
This is just one bit of the extensive discussions on rights to call the notes as a shareholder...
They bank may also call the notes and if they do they give a 14 day advance notice and pay a mean of the share value over those 14 days...

I guess the only real issue is

That would put a damper on the fund if the bank went tits up

 

Hopefully they are a Canadian version of too big to fail
