    Cooperative populations are also a plus...these homogeneous nations have an easy time getting everyone on the same page. It's tough to get everyone on the same page when keeping people divided generates the most non-monetary revenue...

    Perhaps. Certainly you might think a nation of 10MM may have the people feeling "closer" to their national government than a nation with ~33 times the population. Plus I'm sure culture is a factor, and not having fifty state governors doing their own thing not necessarily consistent with the federal government.

    ... and I'll go out on a limb here ... I'm sure having the deep schism we have between the federal government, much of the media, and many of the states, did not exactly help with getting our national population be on the same page.

    I am watching Tilman Fertitta on CNBC, a big restaurant guy. He mentioned that closing his restaurants might be a "taking." I never thought of that, but I wonder if we'll see lawsuits under the Takings Clause of 5th (and 14th) Amendments. The only trick would be to show that the government (fed or state) took the property for public use. Is stopping the spread of the virus public use? A good lawyer could probably argue that it is.

    Interesting thought. I’d imagine it would be very complicated, as far as compensation would go. As the value of the physical property wouldn’t be at play, (and most likely didn’t pay rent), and what value was actually lost because of forced shutdowns, assuming it’s likely revenue would have dramatically reduced without the shutdown as some people certainly would have stayed away.
