I missed it too. That’s where the dividend play came from probably. If I had started 10 years ago I’d probably have bought a bunch of the high flyers you’re talking about lol

That's why I'll be trying to time it just this once while building up invest-able cash. I wouldn't normally but you know the old saying, buy low sell high. We are 'high' right now, even the Fed knows it.

I agree, just don’t catch falling knives. I’d wait for it to start back upward, but you may be successful.

We will see! :fingerscrossed: I tried to catch oil with a little bit of money, not proving successful so far but it's only been a month or so lol. It's been hanging around $50 but dropped past that today.

    Back to this one...

Wooh boys this could be the opportunity on it's way. Think about how many times you have thought about wishing you would have dumped a ton into the market in 2009. It won't even be close to a 2009 level drop, but the opportunity could be coming.

This thread always makes me smile. I run a financial planning company and my brother runs one in another state. Between us nearly half billion in assets and all by sticking to basics and fundamentals for our clients. Managing expectations and helping their behavior in these markets . Please don't get irrational when the market does, trust me. Buy and hold...buy more when it's cheap. Oh and yes dollar cost averaging absolutely works and timing doesn't . This can easily, easily, be proven with statistics. Everyone gets lucky, but luck isn't intelligence .Discipline and fundamentals works.

Not meant to be a rant at all, just hope it helps some of you in case you're in a worry or thinking of doing anything irrational with large sums of money .FWIW, grew up poor and on welfare, now I'm paying for my Dad to retire because he never had someone giving him good advice, and he lost his butt many times with irrational decisions listening to news or cubicle advisors.

    Good luck (or behavior) gents.

    Thank you for that post.

All I know is I have much more value in my accounts than if I had just socked into high yield savings account (or tucked in my mattress).

The markets would have to go much lower for me to reach the levels of a shitty savings account.

If that happen, there will be lots of people worse off than me.

Lucky, I'm already negative for all time and I haven't done shit with my 401k till now. My "time in" the market was poor as far as a good career with 401k goes. Gonna have to "time" my next "in" whenever these asset classes deflate.

I think the most important thing is establishing a goal before you do anything. Is it income with dividends? Buy low sell high? Hold forever? Etc. That’s what helped me get on track at least.

I'm in the " spend all the money on me" crowd. When I'm gone, the will isnt going to have much use.

    So much this.

If timing the market could be done with any kind of consistency more people would be doing it.

I would have no problem adding to any of my positions right now (29 total). But I think AVGO, MO, T are great buys. Also AAPL at this price and yield should make people happy in a few years. For risky, high yield REITs, NRZ is super cheap right now. And ENB, ABBV, KO.

I do this for dividends though, so my view will not be the same as someone looking for growth. I like income, couldn’t care less about net worth or share price.

If it worked everyone would be trillionaires. I feel the same way about chart reading, if it worked so well, all the technical analysts would be rich, not posting their ideas on Twitter all day.

Read a Mr. Mustache article on retiring early. It was a very positive view read. I've been ready for something that wasn't all doom and gloom.

Lots of info that relates to what many in this thread subscribe to.

I would link the article, but not sure how to do that on my phone.

I hear all of y'all on not timing the market. I really do. I just think right now we are one step away from capitulation. Lower lows and lower highs. But I have a mock portfolio set up so we'll see how much I miss out on. I may eat my words, but we'll see. I'm not just looking at charts, I'm just seeing what's going on in the numbers.
