They/he has talked about doing it this way all week. He stole the stuff they were already settled on though.

In reality, it’s not likely she’d be hurt by it anyway. Made sense for her to play hardball.

It looks like the unemployment is $400 a week. I think that’s a good choice, it will wean everyone off of it instead of cancelling or continuing it.

unemployment is just payment from the government. You pay state and federal taxes on it. Of the 400, 100 is to come from the state. I’m not sure how the different sources come into play, though. I would assume they get lumped together as your income regardless of state or federal.

my brothers friend owns a landscape company. My brother wanted him to come in and do some fairly substantial work after doing some home renovations. The guy said he's happy to do the work but it's going to take several weeks instead of a few days because he has NO Workers. He's doing everything solo. They all went on unemployment. They are not coming back as long as they are making more money doing nothing. He's tried calling the unemployment office to tell them work is available and they can come back to work. He's met with busy signals, hang ups and "Hmm...yeah...um..hold please.." until you die of old age. Nobody gives a f&@%.
He's hoping this helps. He's losing his business and he only hires legals.

I’ll be honest I forget which one I chose. Also, RI has like zero communication so there’s no statements or confirmations or anything until the end of the year. I can’t go get a record of payments or a breakdown or anything. Maybe if I call but there’s no call waiting so it’s basically a luck of the draw, if it’s busy when you call you get an error bot and told to call back later. RI is okay but really really needs some help to get to the 21st century let alone they’re still going like it’s the 1950s.

    Anyway.

I read the high level didn’t watch the whole thing, but there’s a reason when I was deciding which platform to use, I went with TD instead of robinhood. I actually like the RH GUI better, both PC and app. But if it doesn’t do it’s intended job, it can look as pretty as it wants, still a turd with a bow tie. So, when people ask which platform to use around here, nobody is saying RH has a bad interface (from what I have seen). But I am at least weary about trusting my money in a platform that has failed to allow access to it multiple times under heavy user load, your infrastructure needs to be able to support that in this game. There’s a reason Zoom hasn’t had any large scale issues with the massive uptick in usage, their entire platform is built on it being expandable. Need more bandwidth? Tack on another server farm and flip a switch, done.

RH might be better for buy and hold investors, but for day traders and the like, it seems like a risk.

They are going to owe at tax time, not have the money, and then owe interest penalties...They've basically accepted the benefits without realizing that the taxable portion is a loan with interest due..a LOT of interest...

So I listen to this in discussion of silver being hoarded by JP Morgan reminds me a lot of Debeers and the hoarding of the diamonds. I wonder if they could short silver in cycles, flood the market, close positions and buy back the silver with the profits.
Debeers rode the diamond monopoly for a long time and controlled the market. https://www.businessinsider.com/history-of-de-beers-2011-12?op=1

that’s sort of the intent behind it though. Is you’re in unemployment for a short stretch, say 2 months, while you find a new job. So you get all the monies then, and then once you’re back at work you start banking away for the taxes. That’s the intention behind that method of withholding taxes, at least in my mind. But since the current situation is so much different than that, I’m sure come April 21 it’s going to be a damn disaster of so many people owing taxes they can’t pay. Especially with the +600.

That’s R.I. though. Not sure of other states if they might not give that option to defer tax withholdings. I won’t talk about my thoughts on taxing unemployment benefits income. Might venture too political.

imho, you're spot on. futures contracts, cash settlements, and unloading naked shorts at London pre, as well as Asian open allowed repeating buys in NY.
'data' is whatever they say it is.

This is deep. Think JFK, the US Dollar, not Fed Reserve Note, and silver in coinage..
    Hunt's, Buffet..there's more.

    Gotta run.. frisbie golf day

Cali is the same. You can take all the cash or have them withhold 10% for taxes. Either way you'll owe the IRS something.

UI withholdings are withdrawn pre-tax. It makes sense that when those funds are dispersed they should have taxes paid on them. I don't see IRS guidelines being political so hopefully we can discuss this without bringing any politics into it.

hmm. Never thought of it that way.

My thought was: the government is giving you this money for assistance, they’re limiting it and controlling it based on their rules and stipulations, yet they’ll tax it after it is supplied by the government. o_O

but. I do appreciate your take on it that it’s almost like a 401k in that it’s drawn pre tax and you’re taxed when you use it. Gives me a new way of looking at it.

When ever I ask someone if those benefits are taxed. Their answer is IDK. I think most people who are receiving benefits are spending, spending, spending.

I'm more interested to know how that money is managed by UI. When this whole thing happened there was record low unemployment for 5 years running. That should mean more money gong in to the pool and less coming out. That should also mean a giant surplus in the fund.

Covid hits and every states UI agency is crying for federal assistance because they don't have the money. How the hell does that happen?

For years I've wished that the US would treat UI and Social Security the way some foreign countries do. Use an individual system. UK, Aus, Russia, Chile, Sweden all do that. Your money is withdrawn and put in a managed personal account. The more you work the more money goes into said account. There are clearly defined laws that prevent any other agency from drawing from that pool. When you reach retirement, or become unemployed, that money goes to you and you only.

Seems like a pretty sure fire way to make it apples to apples. But it's probably to simple of an idea. lol

makes too much sense. It’s like tool plazas. The only form of taxation that I am 100% on board with. Heavy vehicles pay more, and you pay to use the road. Let’s ignore that Maine tried to have a higher toll for hybrids because they’re heavier, that’s aside the point for now. Problem is in execution, other departments usually end up being given some of that money that comes in that, in my mind, would be earmarked and dedicated to highway and roadway maintenance. Instead we have this system where we pour everything into a pool and everyone gets different size buckets.

I have a feeling at the end of the week it’ll be either steady or up but not a tremendous amount up. We’ve had a strong week or so, there’s stuff happening with the gubment, I think we’re going to see a bit of a rocky week but overall okay. Let me put it this way, I am not ditching any long term holds with my theories. If FLIR hits my exit gate I’ll cut the cord then regardless. Otherwise everything is long term holds.
