I bought some last week, and as you can see just felt today's slump.

My overall market stance right now is that I am continuing to contribute to my accounts, but I am just accumulating cash at the moment. I'm not interested in trying to catch this falling knife. I'm going to let the markets stabilize a bit before diving back in.

If everyone is afraid it means it’s safe to buy; if everyone is excited, it’s time to sell!

so as someone already in and obviously wanting to lower his cost average you're still saying hold out for more certainty..

it's a headache trying to decide.

Precisely. I'm waiting to see when I interpret we have found a bottom (at least temporarily) before I tie up any more cash.

I bought in at a certain number that I perceived to be a discount on the stock. With market fluctuations I run the very real risk of the stock falling further, as you can see here. I purchased AAPL as a long position so seeing a market drop like this is not going to make me panic and sell which instantly secures a loss. I'll just ride it out, and use the equity that I do have in the stock as leverage for my options positions and margin values elsewhere within my account. No fear here.

I am starting to think a big run up will happen soon. There is a lot of negativity being priced in that might not play out. There will obviously be a recession at some point, but there could be big gains in the meantime (maybe a year or two). Just a wild guess.

I saw the Santa Claus rally as just that... An end of year run up. I personally (certainly no professional) think that we are in for a long and bumpy road further down yet. I am waiting for another little rally to get out of some positions that I have gotten lopsided in so that I can use those funds elsewhere, but I'm long on the stock market overall. Hell, I've lost over $500/share on some of my Amazon positions, but I won't be rolling out of them anytime soon. I just happen to be short on the 1-year or so time horizon. There's a lot of geopolitical variables that remain up in the air, and it keeps me held back. In the meantime I will enjoy my bear call spreads as I cheer the stock market lower. Just my .02

And this is why the long game is the best way. You and I have polar opposite opinions as to the direction of the market. Both of which have sources to support them. It might end up that neither of us are right, and the stock market remains range bound for the next 6 months... :notsure:

Lower is always better for me as a dividend investor, so I’m not sweating it. I look everywhere I can for money to put in at times like this.

Well I was certain we were headed a lot lower a few weeks ago, just changed my mind lately, seems like a lot of overshooting down lately. I don’t ever plan to sell anything so it doesn’t matter lol

Yeah I bust my trading account into 3 relatively even buckets: Stable stocks (generally) that pay me dividends, growth stocks that I believe will make a run up, and stocks that I trade monthly and leverage for options trading.

If you asked me though I am a dividend investor. That is essentially my long term position.

Are you a 5 stock portfolio kind of guy, or are you one that has positions in dozens of stocks?

I have 30 positions right now. I don’t want to say the value on here but I think it’s an amount that general consensus says 20-30 positions is about right.

Yeah I'd say never post up numbers on here. I run about 15-20 positions, and then I generally have another 5-6 options positions on depending on the game that I am playing at the time.

I have it set up pretty simple. I put about the same amount into each position. I have 7 REITs, so about 20% of portfolio yields pretty high. Overall yield is just under 5%, so I am getting paid to sit through this horrible market. I posted all my positions, probably a few pages back. I just like the simplicity, a few times a month I just top up whatever is a good buy at the time. Don’t plan to ever sell but would in certain situations.

I want to learn options too. Just something simple like covered calls. Haven’t ventured into it yet though.

I could probably teach you a couple of things. Once you get the concept it's easy. I'm not about to type that novel out on here though.

Haha, just something simple, covered calls for income. I heard that is a win/win and worst case scenario is you have to sell your shares. Does that sound about right? The covered part means you hold the shares, so it’s not as risky as short selling. And if the price doesn’t rise (to in the money I think it’s called), you just collect a premium?
