California prosecutor was picked as the VP candidate. If you mean “who” about the other part I said, I can’t talk about that on this website.

You can tell that I am voting for Kanye West based on those posts? I tried not to signal, holding my cards close.

Makes no sense to split shares. Fractional shares are almost ubiquitous now.

And I think some people prefer owning full shares. There are certainly Tesla or musk fans that can’t afford the vehicles, or the current stock price. But they’d be happy to grab a share or 2 after the split.

I’m sure there’s more to it to as far as actual ownership. I think with fractional shares you “own it” via, say, robinhood who actually owns it. With a full share, you actually own it but robinhood stores it. I’m sure there’s a lot more to it than just the cost of the share that comes into play.

I'm guessing with a 5:1 split it's 5x more shares transacted and so much more money to be made shaving fractional $$ off of differentials between quotes and fills...There has to be a $$ reason...Other than Musk just wanting more people to be able to afford it...
I hear the REAL reason is he wants to be part of the DJIA....

I agree with this take. I mentioned that I can’t buy partial shares, but honestly don’t think I would. I have a Spreadsheet that is much easier to track by adding the shares I buy. It would get messy with fractions.

I have no idea what the reasons are, I was talking about reasons the stocks bounce after these split announcements. I don’t know how technical they get. Maybe they see trends of longtime owners being priced out of new shares, and they want them to continue investing in Tesla or Apple or whatever the company is. Or maybe he wants to prove it was overvalued at 700, so he’ll make it less. Or maybe he wants to take it private at 400/share again. o_O

I don’t know your spreadsheet but would it be hard to make your shares just 7.5 vs whole numbers? My next move is the spreadsheets. Moving from managed fund (betterment, at least it’s the best or on par with the better ones 0.25 in per year so I’m on it but not dire straits). Have some plans for spreadsheets need to see how RH and TD export to csv and work from there.

Split means there’s outlook that they’ll go higher and want to make it accessible (historically) and in this case maybe DJIA so, forward thinking, this is good news no matter what - at least in this case - so it’s worth a small spike.

Yea, you’d need to start a separate page for fractions. But then you could buy 1/1000th or something of brk.a :D

If you bought exact half shares it would be simple. If you had $20, and wanted to buy a fractional share of SPHD (just as an example), you’d get .57175529 shares. Do that with 27 holdings on a regular basis and it would get pretty annoying. I buy small quantities often so I wouldn’t like it.

Just seeing that 1 fractional share you wrote out annoys my sense of order
