We don’t intend on staying in this house forever. Maybe another 5 years at most (but at least another 3). But, we are throwing a couple hundred extra each month but more into the market.

if something drops 25% premarket for reason of offering shares at a 13% discount, I’ll take a shot. Only 100 shares though.

Preferences. The way I see it, if you get a windfall, invest it. Otherwise, split it - and use the dividends to pay out the mortgage. Eventually your mortgage will go away and you'll get that X amount of dividends just coming in every month. Alternatively, pay off the mortgage earlier and now you have the amount you would be paying to the mortgage to invest, instead.

Long of the short, my APR is 4.25%, I split half overpay half invest, if I was at 10% or something, I'd be consdiering pay down more. etc etc. All personal preference, there's no one right/everything else wrong sort of thing.

yeah, with my interest rate being 2.875%, it just seems to make more sense for me to invest it, plus I am young and my risk tolerance is high.

I just refinanced at 2.25%, and my portfolio yields over 4%. I will make minimum mortgage payments and invest the most I can.

I was always taught the mortgage is the last thing in my financial picture to worry about. It’s not a depreciating asset. And with rates what they are now, I see no reason to make it a priority.

Just bought our "forever" house at 2.75% we are doing payments twice a month to get a couple of extra payments a year. My dividend account is yielding just over 4%, so I am happy. My other retirement accounts are doing their thing. Our big focus is on trying to retire early, so we are trying to invest/save as much as we can in accounts we can start using at 55.

Of course she's doing better at that than I am. :p

That's true. It's the last thing to pay off, but the first thing to "worry" about. Mine is 30 year/4.25% even with PMI it's not a top priotity. We're also looking to skeedaddle to Texas soon so that's important to think about.

Right now I am the breadwinner. But my wife is going back to classes, once she's done with her DPT stuff, she'll definitely earn way more than me.

Are you familiar with pulling APIs?
I found an API for live crypto prices a couple years back and built the spreadsheet I wanted.
There has to be something out there for stocks

    Edit: found this....

I was going to look into something like that when I had some downtime at work. And I wanted to play with that and maybe some machine learning and Python and focus on one stock and see if I could get something decent to work for some minor trading with one stock (to start). I am sure there are projects on Github as well.

    Edit: Yup

thanks! Might look into it. Might not. Depends how serious I am about needing that info. Think it depends on monopoly vs boring too realistically.

(investing)(poorly handling debt) ---- pick the one you're better at, put money there. IK it ain't math or always best on paper but it's the simplest way to make the decision

yeah. You can do all the math in the world but sometimes there’s a human element to it that says “I’m happier the debt is paid off”. We got a yearly payout a few years back at work and it was enough to put us over the edge and pay off my wife’s Camry. There was about 3k left on a zero percent loan 250/mo. That’s peanuts and easy to handle. That 3k ingested isn’t peanuts invested and would probably be pretty good long term. But. Peace of mind with the title in our safe and no debts instead.
