He didn't buy physical gold. He picked up shares in gold mining stocks. He believes they will outperform banks in the current market environment. If gold keeps rising he will be correct.

Doesn’t take much to outperform the banks right now. My savings rate is down to 0.8 with ally right now.

Banks are doing just fine right now. Well, except Wells Fargo but they've been trying to run themselves in the ground for years.

Gold mines are a good bet right now though. It's two fold. The obvious is the price of gold is going up. The second thing is the price of fuel is going down. It takes a shit ton of money to run a gold mine and a lot of that is fuel costs.

I have a DCU savings account that pays like 6% on the first $1,000...So I literally keep $1K in that and transfer the $5 a month into my checking...

That's why I was looking at HL but they're in the 2 year high right now for price so it doesn't seem like a good choice over a solid dividend stock like a T or VZ etc...But they do have that enticing 0.18% dividend ;)

If I was going to hop into gold mining stock I'd be getting GOLD. Barrik has been around a very long time. They beat earnings last week and I would expect them to crush earnings next reporting period.

I won't be getting into them though. I'll stick with trading NVDA and waiting for INO to pull back to the level I bought at. I'm down about 5k on INO currently. I just did the math and over the last month I made $2756 selling covered calls on them. In another month I'll have recouped my loss as long as they stay at their current level. As soon as they break out again, if they do, I'm unloading them. As soon as I recoup my loss I'm unloading them. I really hope they break out sooner then a month as I could use those funds in other more profitable trades.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/16/a-flood-of-job-losses-looms-as-airlines-industry-struggle-in-coronavirus-pandemic.html

This is going to be tough. With support or not. The aero industry is way way down. A lot of pilots will be forced out and lose their airline seniority, but I think the bigger picture will be how much support staff will be left with nothing. Baggage, maintenance, etc. if you’ve spent 10 years in aircraft maintenance, it’s not like that cross trains you into other maintenance. You’re skilled but specialized. And this is just the US airlines in this article. I’m sure British and other European airlines are hit similarly, as well as African and Asian airlines.

This isn’t just a muddled recovery, in my opinion Q4 is going to be a drawback that we got a little to antsy about being recovered. Now, a vaccine or strong news of a food vaccine can change that. But we’re 6 ish weeks away from this.

    From the article

Surveys found that each of the removed boxes in the L.A. area collected fewer than 25 pieces of mail a day over a six-day period, Harrison said. Twenty-five pieces is the minimum required to make a collection point economically worthwhile, he added.

things change tides rise and fall, what’s was once booming isn’t. And as mentioned we have online bill pay and whatnot. This makes complete sense to me. It sounds like it was managed by someone who didn’t want to deal with complaints so they did the change fly by night operation style though.

I was looking for the justification and it’s pretty plain and simple. In an economic hard time such as that, it’s pretty easy to look at ways to trim the fat. And sending someone out to a box every day that gets so few letters, is fat for the usps. Pass the burden onto the residents and make them drive an extra few miles and centralize pickup points.

sounds like they really hen pecked for a good person for the article, a business owner who had a 3 pickup times per day schedule!? That’s a lot even for “back then”, I mean excessive. They probably interviewed a ton of people who said “I lived here 20 years and didn’t even know there was a mailbox there”, and finding a few pretty weak gemstones to justify outrage. Any change will make people angry. A different change will make a different group angry. :notsure:

My small ish town has four good courses (yes. Four. In one town). One is trying to sell off to a developer and OH MY GOD is everyone pissed off that the town would dare develop and change.

I posted the article because a lot of the media is acting like “someone” suddenly started removing mailboxes to tamper with the election. The most important part of the article in my opinion: in 1999 there were 337,000 mailboxes, and in 2009 there were 187,000. The new media narrative will be hard to push with this fact (150,000 mailboxes removed between 1999 and 2009).

Help me understand. Mailboxes are not directly tied to homes/apts.? Is this P.O. boxes only?
