IOS is, and ALWAYS will be smoother than Android. Apple takes time with there products, they dont have a new phone coming out every month and polish the one AMAZING PHONE THEY DO HAVE!

x2 bud . I like a good debate, but only when people have something valid to bring to the table.

    Unlike this douche

I had the original iPhone, the 3G, and now the 4. I have never had a single problem with any of them and have not had one area of iOS that I have wanted to change. I jailbroke my 4 for a short while just to see what the hype was about, ended up restoring it just because iOS is much more refined than all the themes and other crap that jailbreaking offers. As for Droid, I've got a couple friends with Droid phones and coming from always having an iPhone they all feel cheap  and the software wasn't NEARLY as smooth as iOS as far as transitioning and opening apps. I can see how someone would want to go against the "mainstream" of apple products, but you can't deny the exceptional quality.

When you say smoother, I'm assuming you mean the overall speed of the OS? Moving between apps, boot times, etc...? If so, I completely agree.

It's like when I go to use one of the DROID-based tablets and compare them to an iPad (which I have yet to spring for, as hard as it has been for me!). iOS just seems so much more polished (animations, transitions, etc...).

I will admit, I have not seen the very latest DROID phones in person so I cannot intelligently (as Tacomanator and I were talking about) weigh-in on them. But in my experience, they have yet to reach Apple in that area.

    I completely agree.

While Apple does have a sort of "monopolization"-type feel to their products (mainly software not supporting Flash, not opensource...) I really do feel that their products are better quality.

It all goes back to simply putting your hands on a DROID phone and then an iPhone. Now, I will admit, DROID really does not have anything to do with hardware so that is a bit of an unfair comparison.

I imagine if Google started putting more time in hardware development, that they could begin to compete with Apple in that arena. Until then, I still feel as though Apple has the right idea - strict hardware requirements, minimalist software.

If your needs are simple and iOS's one size fits all hat works, then by all means go with an iPhone, because it is a great device.

If you're like me however and you like to tweak every last little thing simply for your own enjoyment, iOS is not for you and Android is screaming your name.

I've got a Motorola Photon 4G on Sprint and an iPod Touch 4th generation so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm due for an upgrade through verizon and am just doing some research on. What would be best for me and most logical. I don't have a lot of apps downloaded but I do use my gmail quite often and it makes things a lot easier to be alerted to a new email. Most of my time is spent reading websites, mostly TW, and just cruisin around.

I do agree that the Droid is slow(I have the original motorola droid) but I work in the construction business and like the idea of being able to have a waterproof phone(commando) and not worry bout my phone getting wet, dust and dirt inside, and whatever else it may encounter.

I don't know what opensource means, but do understand that flash is required to run some websites. I don't own an ipod because I destroyed it a while back. So my big question is, is it better for me to get an iphone to save myself from having to buy a phone and ipod, or would it be worth buying an ipod seperate and getting the commando? Just lookin for some advice

There are other options out there for dust/water protection. I'll be using a lifeproof case on my iPhone 4S-Sealed against dust, waterproof to 6 ft submersion, and shock resistant.
Unless you plan on doing a huge amount of surfing from your phone-I wouldn't worry too much about flash. There are apps for forums (like Tapatalk) and apps for most everything else (like netflix streaming and iheartradio and urbanspoon) so lots of websites you might use from a computer can be replaced with an app better suited to your phone.
I'm a Apple guy- but in the end- YOU gotta be happy with what you get.

I have a Droid X and it worked great up to two Sunday's back when an update to the OS was downloaded. The DX will reboot when playing music, weather it is from the SD card or from Pandora. So far I have taken it in 3 times to have Verizon look at it. Yesterday they reinstalled the OS for me. I forgot to take the phone to the gym this morning so I do not know if the problem is gone. I am listening to the built in music app right now to see if it will reboot.

This is my first smart phone and so far has been really great. Keeps me in touch with the family and provides a lot of functionality for day to day living. I would think the iPhone provides the same functionality.

I know nothing about iphones. Don't know that I've ever even played with one. The surfing thing is probably not an issue. Id like to have a wi-fi hotspot phone(so I don't have to pay for landline internet) I guess just read peoples feedback, do some of my own research, def go check out iphones and see what I think of controls n such, and make my own judgement based on everything I learn about the differences between the 2

    x2 on everything Brunes said.

These days, you don't have to buy a phone that is already water/dust proof/resistant. LifeProof, Otter and Griffin all make good cases that will protect your phone from just about everything except a Transformer invasion or nuclear meltdown.

They all provide the same functionality. It all comes down to personal preference and what you want to do with your phone on a day-to-day basis.

Definitely go out and see the phones in person, use them, leave, come back and repeat.

The Hotspots are great and all, but keep in mind that they are limited on bandwidth. If used for traveling, they are fine, but if you use them in place of your home broadband connection, you will likely rack up some serious overage charges (generally $10/GB over your monthly limit).

On a side note...iOS 5 should be getting pushed down in about 2 hours! :yay:

Thanks for the info fink. I don't use any computer now so I don't know what a hotspot is seriously needed. I watched the ios5 video on youtube and wow! I never knew they had all those cool features. I'm more than likely gonna go to an iphone, but it won't be immediately. Have a couple things to take care of before I drop a buncha money on a phone. And more than likely ill get an ipad soon thereafter.

I need to research n learn bout the apple stuff. I'm completely new to all of it. Looks like some pretty kickass stuff though. Like the newsstand feature updating subscriptions, automatic sync and not having to tether the iphone to the ipad, wireless connect to a tv. This is all new to me but I really like it!

you need to get what you prefer and what you think you would like/use the best and not worry about all the bullsh*t everyone says about the other. I prefer iphone but if someone wants to use android, well thats their problem..

They do have some great features!

I have been holding off on the iPad for a while now...it's tough, given that several of the other managers here have them and use them for video conferencing and stuff. If only I could sneak one in on the expense reimbursement this month...

Been an Android guy for a long time. Android at its core is very stable, very fast, and very nice. Its all the butchering and bloatware that gets installed on it from phone makers and carriers that ruins it. I recently installed a built from source pure gingerbread rom on my Thunderbolt and WOW what a difference it makes. The thing runs smooth as silk, is blazing fast, and there are soooo many more things you can tweak. That being said, i was very close to ditching android out of sheer boredom of hacking my android device, but that was reversed with the massive disappointment that is the 4S, same dinky screen and no LTE for Verizon version. For at least another year, I will be sticking with the android until apple realizes people want fast data and a bigger screen. Nexus Prime here I come! SOOOOO SEXY!

You still have an og Droid? No wonder it's slow. Droids are a lot faster now a days...

But, like others already said, go to a store and check them out for yourself. Then make your choice.

I'm really diggin the New Samsung Galaxy S2 right now. it's dual core, so it's super fast. The Atrix2 is also agood one, it's dual core and the qHD screen on that thing is jaw dropping

I have an IPOD touch...I'm guessing that's the same IOS as IPHONE.
I also have a Samsung Epic 4g Android phone.

I love the Android....best phone I've ever owned. It's smooth and easy to use.

I just went with droid because I've had a lot of probelms with the 5 or so iPhone's Ive had in the past. They kept crashing, constantly losing service, they got stuck on wifi and never went back to 3g until I reset it from my computer, vibrator broke countless times and then on the last one my phone fell out of my pocket in my truck and cracked its screen on the door sill protector which was a two and a half foot drop on to plastic.

Overall I think I just got unlucky and had bad experiences with their products. I might try them again if something impressive comes out in the future.
