We have been looking at a couple lots in that area and builders. I am trying to convince my wife that spending the extra money on a decent sized lot with a little less expensive house on NW 84th is the way to go, but I think she is set on living closer to town. I grew up on 2.5 acres along the Mississippi and she grew up in the 'burbs.

Anyways, we have looked at Orton Homes. They seemed decent but heard from a Realtor that they cut corners even though they say they "include all upgrades". He recommended Hubbell Homes (but he worked for them). He also recommended a couple others, but I connot remember them right now and I am at work. I will post them when I get home.

I will be taking a look at Strahan now also.

I would stay away from hubbel. They went bankrupt a few years ago I think and the are a very large builder. I don't think you will get the attention you deserve when building a house.

Where is CG? I am fairly new to this area. Other than going to ISU a decade ago I haven't been in central Iowa too long. Spent 6 years in the Army moving all over the country/world before here.

I just bought a boat last Fall and can't wait to get it out this Spring.

This. It's also the best place to put your boat in at Saylorville, IMO. That is, if there is any water in the lake this spring.:/

Everyone thinks I am crazy for hoping that is snows a ton this winter. We need the precipitation. Fishing in Saylorville and Big Creek was horrendous last year, plus there was no chance for a good spawn.

We usually head down to Rathbun to fish though.

Rathbun is a pretty nice lake. We used to go down there as a kid.

So had anyone texted that dude about wheeling? We should make it a mini meet up there. The trails don't sound bad.

I think we're all waiting for you to do it, Ryan. Let us know what you find out! :) Reading their forums I think it looks like it would be $50 to play for a day, and you have to have certain things like extraction gear, fire ext, CB, etc to get on the trails. Don't quote me on that. I think I can have everything ready by then if you guys want to do it, but it will be tight...

    ETA:
MIOBI.ORG has all the info, my price above isn't correct...

So I texted the dude about wheeling. As far as the trip, it sounds like we do need the above mentioned stuff. Front and rear tow points too. He said not everyone needs a CB if we go as a group. Not sure if I'm in on this one.

I can get the tow points, and a CB if you or some other people want to ride with me.

He said 2-3 CBs is enough so if we have that then we're good. Trails range from novice to extreme so everyone would be fine. I might look into a CB but I'm not a fan of the whole "whip" look.

    I think I'll get a handheld one.
