i have seen some 1st gen Iowa frames on TW, and its not nice to look at
thanks, that is a good video i have not seen before
I will watch it all the way through and repeat

my frame is definitely in much better condition (i think) than the one in the video, just trying very hard to keep it from getting to that point!

So who's going to be the first one to get 5.29's installed so I can see what they are like in person before I do it?

I have a MT so I'm out. @Cav_BluTRD will when he gets his bigger tires.

@BEAR_KNIFE_FIGHT has 5.29s... he also weighs like 8000 lbs though

What do you run at, RPM wise, at 70 MPH? What's your honest opinion of going 5.29's? I don't necessarily care about gas mileage, so that's not something I care to worry about.

I've read most of the replies to the megathread but have taken all that info with a grain of salt. I also don't think my 2020 has most of the problems guys report with the trans shifting like crazy and hunting. It will hunt, but not like a lot of guys describe. Even so, I can see the need once you go bigger than stock tires and start getting heavy.

I am happy. I am running a 2016 with probably stock 2016 TCU tuning and no OVTune -- that's my next major move. My transmission hunts around with cruise control on the highway, but at 68-73 I'm at like, 2100-2500? I can get more accurate data on my next drive to work if you'd like.

TBH the 5.29s with the 33s were fun, but basically a necessity with 35s.

i should just get into a new Tacoma like @Shellshock has hinted at a time or so lol
most likely i would then have the same OCD issues to start over with, but i would be more knowledgeable this time thanks to TW :hattip:

I'm not sure why I didnt think of it until now, but if you havent had the TSB done, you should have @ajmogen update you to 04b04 with TS. it'll be better while you wait and better once you buy the tune as its one of the first ECUs supported since thats what is in mats truck.

Ok. That's kind of what I expected to hear. Or there about. I plan on doing the gears and the OVTune at the same time. I think that makes sense as I would want the shift points adjust properly for the gears. What did you end up paying for the gear swap?

if you bought a new truck, you could start FF and other protections from the beginning and it would be the last truck you'd ever need!

Excellent thinking. I was going to chat with him and Mat to see if I could just buy the tune and flash with @ajmogens permission -- I think he said that's cool as long as it's not like, a dozen trucks.

Either way I should update to 04b04 and see if it helps.

Yeah you can do that, I think it’s $350 for another license. You just need to email zendesk and he’ll get you taken care of.

I appreciate that. I'm sure we'll meet at some point, no need for a special trip. I think I've made up my mind at this point anyway.

For sure man, hit me up with any questions. Regarding cost: I had it done with the shop I've been working with, and they actually used it as a demo for themselves and the local tech college, so there was some non-standard pricing. I think I ended up paying around 18-2000 for parts+install?
