Its nice this time of year because they are actually dry and not covered in snow. It gets a bit cold and wet during the winter.

I’m ready to chuck my work computer out the window and go home. This program we use to write up timber sales is such a POS. :annoyed:

Lame. I hear that a lot. You should see some of the shit for hospitals and old folks homes.... They basically have monopolies on that shit and the software fucking blows. Not only does it blow but it's 10's for not 100's of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the facility.

Nahh. I would be willing to bet it's something proprietary to his industry with a SQL database back-end.

I love the companies that run off some bullshit from the mid 90s who are trapped because the conversion is an astronomical amount of time and money and downtime.

    plus it’s “new” and “different”

When I worked for MSP's it was a daily occurrence. I'm sure you are aware in your line of business as well. I understand their pain. The conversions are usually a nightmare to support and there is always a fair chance that something goes wrong and they loose something. Even if it goes right you spend a half a decade training your people to use the shit. Especially if the business has been around a while and it's a bunch of near retirement workers.

Pretty much spot on. It’s 15+ years old and they keep slapping bandaids on to it hoping it will still work while they are trying to develop something else to replace it that combines all our POS applications into one.

It is amazing how much of a lack of user friendliness is present considering that the majority of my field don’t have half a clue how to do anything with technology.

Small to medium business is rife with this kind of stuff. Even some large business, but not to the same extent.

My expectations for the new system are for it to be just a new POS if it ever gets done.

Guitar Center implemented a new POS a while back.... It was so bad, they got *somebody* to build them a top notch DOS emulator (far better than Dosbox) so they could fake their old Green Screen POS from the early 90s....

    Sometimes I wonder...

    that doesn't surprise me.

there is a huge number of companies still using AS/400 from the late 80s hoping they don't die cuz they are totally screwed if it does.

it also turns out there's no one to admin them anymore lol

you'd also be shocked at the number of companies utilizing lotus.. some started and grew... and now no one wants to touch a migration to exchange. Last I knew, rockwell was still running it...

With all the tech advances and hell, video game menus as a base, you'd think making any kind of POS/organization software with a decent UI wouldn't be impossible ... Cost of upgrades no withstanding, of course (looking at you, US Navy, running shit on Windows XP still)

Yeah but people hate change... like a lot.

try updating to a new version of office in a large enterprise and people lose their damn mind.
