i usually clean my mirrors off at the gas stations occasionally with the supplied bucket squeegee and towels

 

If you've never clay bar'd your windows, get some ipa and clay bar and do it. You will turn a clay bar brown/black I would be willing to bet. There are probably layers of shit on your windows and just invisible glass won't do it.

 

a clay bar specially made for windows/mirrors or just any old bar of clay?

 

Any automotive detailing clay bar.

Yes that. It comes with quick detailer to use as clay lube if you are going to clay your vehicle as well. That detailer is also my second favorite drying aid if you dry your truck after washing it. Do not use the quick detail on your windows though... LoL

Also, don't clay your truck unless you plan on polishing it after.

 

For the record, clay baring may be the most satisfying process in detailing the exterior of a vehicle. The difference is crazy. Polishing is cool to, but claying a really dirty car is crazy the difference it makes.

 

my truck windows are ok as far as hard water spots, or lack thereof, i squeegee them at the gas stations FREQUENTLY (my relatives 2nd gen is different, they never hand wash their windows thoroughly because its such a BIG truck) so the spots are plenty and heavy everywhere

but for my truck, its just the mirrors in the far hidden corners with spots that i have not paid great deal of attention to just a quick wipe and go usually
