So, it sounds like one person is just fishing for free tuning advice and doesn't really understand what they're doing. Then a bunch of nut swingers piped up who really have no idea what's going on. I feel sorry for OVT unless he's written himself up a really good disclaimer about not supporting this directly after purchase. He's going to have a lot of work on his hands trying to help out a bunch of dudes that have absolutely no idea what they're doing.

What's the name of his shop? I wonder what he's working on now that has him ready to drop this particular market.

Hes not dropping he market, he’s just not doing tunes for everyone anymore because its really become impossible and unmanageable. These trucks has a lot of weird quirks and what works on one truck doesn’t necessarily work the same on an identical truck. Every time he does and update there are about 1000 different files he has to create (regular and premium, all the different ECUs, Gears, Tire sizes). Combine that with some people who are never happy and always trying to find something thats a “problem” without actually understanding what’s going on. Or want the 3-4 shift to be higher or lower or want it hold gears or not or any other combination of ridiculousness you can think of.

    http://ovtuned.com/

Hes done a whole bunch of Masada stuff and got into the Toyota stuff in the spring of 2017. Turns out the market is WAY bigger than he ever expected, especially with all the complaints about the 3rd gen ECU programming.

The end goal now is really delivering the tuning platform and giving people the tools to create their own or others to do the tuning. A lot of people could be perfectly content with some very minor changes and others that want to go crazy and tweak all the things.

The bolded part, that's tuning in a nutshell. Period. LoL That's why more people don't do it "Off the shelf" style or remote as often because you can never make some people happy. Or they do like some of the big shops for Western European stuff and have very specific calibrations for very specific parts combinations.

The "Too big of a market" excuse is kind of BS in my opinion. That means he's just not scaling his operation well enough. If he runs a shop full time, there is no such things "too big a market". You take as many customers as you can provide support for, tell everyone else there is a wait time and scale up until you can meet demand. That's how efficient business works. At least in my opinion and experience. The reason I'm not scaling up is because I'm trying to get out of the business more than trying to do it full time. I don't think tuning combustion engine vehicles is going to be a thing in the very near future and I want a stable income. So I could understand if he's trying to get out. But if he's not trying to get out, he's doing it in-efficiently in my opinion.

Agree. It’s a one man show (mostly) for all the Tacoma’s out there. He has another guy that still supports the Mazda customers. Apparently back in the day he had some others he worked with or something that screwed him over pretty bad. It’s always been an issue of scale combined with people super impatient who dont understand development and what tuning actually does and is involved.

Tbh I’m pretty sure you don’t win no matter what you do. Personally I’m content to learn and adjust things to my liking.

I mostly wanted CarPlay. Now I can use that with Gaia on the display instead of having to mount an iPad.

I’ll likely put one with included navigation / maps in the tundra just as a nice to have backup since that’s the truck that spends more time in the remote wilderness.

Let me know if you come across a good option. I've looked a bit, and it seems like most of the decks that do everything I want are $500+. I don't mind spending that, but I don't have anything against saving a few bucks.

Got the last of the stuff I needed for the GX470 today. Dropping it off at the dealer at 2pm@#! Was waiting on new TPMS sensors. Replacing all 5 just to be sure, there is one in the spare as well.
