Idk, driven my aunt's 4Runner and Willy224s and never noticed a lack of power. Of course, I'm not trying to make 0-6 in under 6 seconds, it's a truck, not a sports car.

Manual gearing is different than the autos. Plus you know, you're in charge of when it shifts.

The 3.5 is a fine engine. Lots of power up top, and enough torque down low that if you leave it in lower gears when accelerating it hauls ass. Can also pull quite a bit.

The guys who complain are all idiots who floor it at the stoplight and wonder why it doesn't feel like a Corvette. It's a truck. Drive it like a truck.

I was shocked how different the MT drives from the AT. I figured it was just an anemic 3.5 (partially true) but the ratios in the AT really don’t do it any favors. If you regear the AT to 4.88s, it puts it a lot closer to the ratios the manual has and significantly improves driving characteristics.

Toyota also did a shitty job with the ecu calibrations (especially on the early trucks). The later ones are a lot better and the tune from OV takes it a step farther to making it like you’d have expected it to be from the factory. I missed the 4.0 for a long time, until I tuned.

A lot depends on your driving style. My 16 very much did not like interstate driving. City or driving under 55, i didn’t really have any complaints

people on here add all kinds of weight and then wonder why they don’t see past 4th gear lol

I feel the same. I do miss the extra power of the V8, but I don't think it's underpowered. Then again, I still remember my '94 with the 3.0. By comparison, my '19 is like a Ferrari.

I'm not comparing to a tuned truck, though. It shouldn't require a tune to have acceptable power.

I definitely agree that expectations and driving habits are a big part of the equation. Once I got over the fact that these V6's will never have torque like a V8(without forced induction), I was a lot happier.

Also, realizing how much wind resistance increases with speed helps. I know that the 4runner will downshift more and get shitty fuel economy at 80 MPH. At 65-70, it's much better.

Well. Won't be trading in the Taco. So now to run numbers again with the Wife when she gets home. They, which I expected, won't give me enough on trade to make it worth it. Taco is going no where.

That’s part of why I kept mine. I can sit on it for a couple more years and still get the same trade value. Or find someone that really wants a non tss truck

My wife is officially on board as long as the numbers line up. We are going to go over our budget one more time to be 100% sure and then I'm going to pull the trigger after I let the dealer sweat a little bit more and see if they come down any more. I don't see them coming down a lot more though because at this point it has to be very near invoice.

Confirmed. Invoice is $49,132 and their current offer to me is $50,840. Still crossing my fingers.

Split the diff at $500 over invoice and call it a deal. If they don’t like it, you can let them sit on it and they’ll change their mind.

My plan was to let them sit on it today knowing I'm interested. Then, offer them $50,000 and see if they bite. I feel comfortable that the car is worth every bit of $50k after having driven it. I want to keep the GM happy and I think that could go a long way for that. I am pretty sure he'll go to bat for me for warranty work should I need it even though he knows I'm modding it.

You wouldn't like the stock 3.5.

With the tune I feel the same or better low end as the 4.0 with much better high RPM power. With the manual transmission, it's more fun to drive than the 4Runner.

    That being said....

I still like my 4Runner more...

That's the first one I saw in person! Absolutely awesome color!

    20190928_152338.jpg

Edit: reminds me of the nice pearl white on the SC300's in the 90's. Beautiful cars, IMO. This color seems a little whiter, though.

I'll have to go drive one out of curiosity. I'm pretty sure they adjusted the stock tune at some point.

I'm sure with better gear ratios the 4.0 would feel more powerful. Mine pulls great in the high RPM's even with the extra weight I'm always carrying.
