You can't find deals like that anymore. They go for $1000 the first day if they drive ok. I've looked and looked some more.

Cash for clunkers really destroyed the sub $4k used car market.

I am not sure how much of an impact cash for clunkers really had in Ryan's situation. He was looking for a 30+mpg beater. One cash for clunkers requirement was the vehicle must have a combined city and highway fuel-economy rating of 18 mpg or less.

Kurt, I agree and it has been suggested by me. :) 92-96 Camrys are all over and the four bangers are easy to work on. I had a 1995 Camry DX 4 cyl manual coupe (yes, rare...sought after? not so much haha). I never did break the 30 mpg barrier with it though. I think the few times that I checked it I got 29 mpg without trying too extremely hard but that involved a lot of higher speed interstate driving.

I've been thinking about a cruising car for all the road trips I go on... How do those little cars do on the highway? I assume any 4 banger is gonna be screaming like my 2rz and not do all that great on mileage. Our LeSabre is butter smooth cruising down the interstate and turns close to 30 mpg, I'll take that over a tiny econobox any day

If anyone knows any welders looking for a job and wants to work in Ames, the place I work, PMI, is in need. They can start at $16+ and we usually work 10-12 hour days so the overtime is good.

I stopped today and inquired about a 5 lugger in Ames that has been sitting for quite some time. I now know why. It basically has no frame. The frame was thin as paper if it was still there. By far the worst one I've ever seen. Here's a couple pics I took.

I saw the new Colorado at the fair last night, gotta say I liked it, kinda had a crossover / mid sized truck feel, interior was much nicer than I'm used to seeing in mid sized trucks. Hope Toyota follows suit, because I'm certainly not going to buy a Chevy truck....
