Oh, I know they're making money off it. Hell, I have a 30gb ipod video in my truck just for music (poor beat up pile still works, can't argue that). The iPhone defiantly served it's purpose to spice up the market, but iPad isn't evolving anything. If anything, it's a step back. However, time will tell though. I do think Google's really turning the tide on this though with Android... especially since you can run Nav while streaming shoutcast or pandora, while having AIM on to receive messages and still be able to do other stuff at once. It's such a simple concept that I'm surprised apple hasn't put multitasking on the iPad... then it'd at least be a contender for it's real market. I'm all for tablets though, I think they're pretty awesome... just not this one :D

I would think if your going to invest that much into the entertainment system, then you most likely have dropped some dough on a security system. Especially if your going to throw a Ipad in there the first day it comes out. Just sayin.

What about an IPad dock where you take the unit with you and then just set it in a connected cradle when you get in the truck?

As for security, honestly with it installed and off at a glance it'd be hard to tell the diff between an ipad or any other in-dash screen. Like anything it's a risk, but the iPad doesn't run that much more (hell even less) than most in dash nav units...

yea the 64GB 3g version runs 900 I think with 30/month access. I dont think it is out yet, Therefor that install must be a wifi only version

But yea you can use GPS still with the pad but it wouldnt talk to you, you can watch youtube and whatever else on it but I believe you can do that on the pioneer Avic as well.

I do not see the difference between this and a conncected iphone except for internet access on the screen.

IMO putting an iPad as a carputer is far from a good solution.

but it's a very cool install, and simpler than a real carputer

unless you crack it, how can you keep monitoring your car info through OBD, plus have the GPS run, plus listen to FM, or XM radio, plus have the rear view camera go on when you reverse, etc.
