I stated that was the price before they came available ......try to find one in my area is like trying to find a purple unicorn! I sell iPads at my store and we haven't seen a 16 or 32 in over a month and the 64s are sold out minutes after they come in so myoint was if u wanted me to supply the iPad and I had to buy the 64gb it would be way more than $600! But if you want to find and buy the mini on your own it'll be between $250-300 more than likely....and if you want to compare that price to other Tacoma accessories look at the satori grills the other guys make when their cost on materials is probably about the same and they charge $350+ but hey I bought one haha so like I said it'll also depend on how many people will want one the more the cheaper :D

It would depend on how long it takes you per unit to build. I would hope it would be $200 out the door. Otherwise it may not be worth your time to tool up for this.

Sub'd, Really curious to see the final product, and definitely interested. One question came to mind though and I'm not sure if its been asked already. What would you do about the mini vibrating inside the dash kit? Do you plan on insulation or padding of some type? Same question for the dash kit itself, as far as where it will meet up with the rest of the dash when its closed?

Sub'd. Great work. I like the mini much better than the normal ipad. The mini is just the right size.

Thats Sexy just one issue.... no charging dock? I have my iPhone 4s and stream 8Tracks, Pandora, and iHeartRadio on it and if I didn't have it plugged in it wouldn't last very long.

I am currently in the process of making one for myself. This is the first time I have done anything like this so I may end up wanting to be apart of the group buy. :D

I am going with a slide in mount as that is much easier to make. I just bought a dash kit and made a tray to hold the iPad from ABS plastic. I am going to try and make my edges look clean with body filler. I am using a Cheap Lighting to 30 pin dock to charge and do audio. I followed this guide to make it into a 90 degree.

I still do not know how I am going to handle audio though. I want a Bit Ten, but that is going to have to wait, but for the mean time I found this.

It will allow you to use the App to tune old fashion radio, which I think is kind of cool. Can anyone attest to the sound quality? Lets compare to stock HU without JBL rather than a Bit Ten!

Wow, I just got through reading all the post and I have some question. Please bare with me as I'm new to the tablet world. I bought my wife the Ipad for Christmas and I like it. Resently I have been looking at up grading my speakers and radio. This looks like a cool idea but if I did this, could I still listen to my local radio stations? Now I ask this because if I did this, I wouldn't want a head unit. It just doesn't make sense to me to have a tablet and a radio in the same spot. As far as CD's are conserned, I'll save them to my computer then transfer them to the tablet. I don't have a smart phone due to the cost of data. With no internet will I still be able to have navigation? I like the unit that we can plug in and get the read outs on what the truck is doing in real time. Other than that, help me better understand what would be so great about having the tablet in the dash?

Glad you could join the thread... Concerning your radio stations, ideally you would need to have the iPad hooked up to the Internet so you could use an application to display local radio stations like iHeart Radio.

I think the only reason most people are talking about having a head unit and an iPad is because you need the heading to power your speakers. If you put the iPad in there with no headunit, then you have to buy a device that would push the iPad sound to your speakers and those end up being more expensive than a headunit.

And no, without Internet you would not be able to use navigation.

I want a tablet because I really like the interface on my iPhone, and there's no way to get that interface on a headunit without putting an iPad in there. To me there is nothing seamless or smooth about navigating through a headunit, but an iPad is very easy. Also, all the applications like Pandora, Nav, YouTube would all be very nice to be able to access in the car, and... It's unique. I like unique...

Hope my answers help, and by no means am I any type of audio expert, so if anyone sees anything that I said to be not true, feel free to call me out on it...

Additionally for me I want the iPad to use an OBDII dongle and app for gauge information and data logging like the Scangauge or UltraGauge but with more features.

Also, Valentine 1 now makes an app and dongle for their radar detector so it can be hidden.

Lots of car addon options for the iPad, and more coming.
