Getting close now boys! Just trying to figure out how to overcome the curve of the dash it's leaving a nasty gap between the iPad and the dash kit!!!!!

Here's a thought, ...what if you connected one of those Powermat (www.powermat.com) charging stations to the mini? This may eliminate the need to plug in and allow more of a snap in feature that it seems everyone is looking for.

Who has the skills and $ to fab this up? Can I get the creative credit on this idea please?

Uhh..why wouldn't you want it to hold the iPad? I think that is half the point.

Looks good minus the fact that he's using bluetooth and it doesn't charge. That would kill it for me. If you're gonna do it, do it right. If you're going to spend all that money on a system, why are you running your sound through Bluetooth?

I have faith that bkmcity is gonna hook us up though. I believe he'll get the thing to charge and hard wire it in to get good clean audio!

Yeah, I'm saying still have the custom dash mount like everyone is talking about but with an integrated Powermat instead of having to plug in. Then you could charge wirelessly while its mounted on the dash, use Bluetooth to play music, movies, surf web, ect.

i agree with you TuFerLife, if your gonna do something do it right the first time. im anxious to see his next post haha. sounds like an awesome build. ive watched a couple videos of soundman do his builds... i dislike that silver EQ tuner box on the side of the truck. it would be better if everything was adjustable like a head unit.

ahhhh gotcha. That would be quite cool indeed. But don't you have to still plug in the ipad into something for the powermat to work?

yeah, there is a small case needed to enable connectivity with the device.
powermats aren't really docking solutions though - they are made to sit on a table, not hold the device vertically. Even if the mat has magnets I don't know if that would be strong enough offroad (wonder if the setup in that video above holds up well?)

Another reason I want the iPad mini in my dash .. I just got an email from Valentine Research that they have a new Bluetooth add-on for the V1 radar detector. They already have an Android app and the iPhone/iPad app is on the way.

That vid is pretty sweet but that's the easy way out I can do anybody one of those dashes probably overnight if any of you just want a magnetic dash for the mini to sit there. Mine will be a lot more functional with charging and audio integration capabilities and mine is coming along great I have fiberglassed a tray for the iPad to slide in and out of just a little more brainstorming for the sides bc of the curve of the dash I might make it out of abs plastic vs fiberglass but I work all day till 10 so by the time I get home at night I don't have much time or effort to work on it! But I'll upload some more pics for you guys soon!

When my dash is complete the iPad will slide into the dash and connect directly into the charger so it will be charging at all times in the vehicle.....

Making this work with a powermat (inductive charging) wouldn't be hard.
