Just slide the ipad into a docking system so it charges while the truck is on.

I have the 4g version and just use the hotspot from my jailbroken 5s. It's been working fantastic for me :)

Yeah, I would go with 4G/LTE version too. Adding an external GPS creates extra steps in mounting it, wiring power source, manually powering it on each time you need to use it sounds like pain in the ass. It's already a lot of work to put this install together, and cost wise, it is the same as 4G/LTE iPad.

With the CarPlay announcement, I think this is clearly the way of the future for car infotainment systems. And I think having a dedicated device that doesn't require plugging in your phone every time you get in the car is better. :)

By the way, how hard is jailbreaking your 5S? I'm gonna do it too. Whats the wifi tether app called?

Takes all of 4 minutes to jailbreak :) and the tethering app I'm using for the hot spot is TetherMe. You have to have the repo source repo.insanelyi.com to get it.

Jailbreaking the 5S is simple just go to evasi0n.com. I use MyWi for tethering on my 5S

Have you been out where there is no cell or wifi service to see how your ipad gps performs yet? That is why I went with the external gps that bluetooths to the ipad, its for when i'm out in the middle of the desert with no signal i'm guaranteed a solid accurate GPS.

No I haven't, but if I plan to do so in the future, the external GPS is still an option even with the iPad 4G/LTE. So I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the info.

I've done long interstate drives and using iPhone GPS works fine, so I assume the iPad GPS will work as well.

Could someone list the exact parts to complete this install? Will this work on 2010 Tacoma?

Is there enough interest to be worth my time to make some to sell?

Didn't you try to get 5 people to sign up a couple months ago? I hope you do make some to sell one day, it looks like a great design!
