I was an Apple-certified tech in the 1980's, and loved using their products. On the recommendation of a friend, I purchased some shares in the 1990's, the dark period, when it was dirt cheap, wished I'd purchased thousands! :(

But, it's been a damn good investment. :D

i think they are pretty cool, thing is i would not want it to be a "computer", i love my ipod touch, greatest music / game player IMO. i travel a lot for business, i think an ipad would be a great airplane, airport time killer. I wouldn't get the 3g either, wifi is almost everywhere now, especially in airports, and my house. i would also want the 64gb, you could store a ton of movies and tunes on that thing.

I do! I will be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

Ok, I'll admit I'm a total fanboy, just as I am with my Taco

But, I started using them in 1979 w/ the IIe while in college. I left the automotive field, went to college for computer science, but got hit with the recession after graduation. So, I ended up getting a tech job at ComputerLand, and became certified in all those oldies - IBM, Compaq, HP, Epson, Okidata, Apple, Bernoulli Boxes, Amstrad, Wang (yes, really!), etc. - it was probably the best thing to happen to me, as I got real, hands-on experience with many different systems. But, I digress...

For some people, the iPad will be just another device. For hard-core laptop users, this is probably not for them. But, I think many people are underestimating the iPad, just as many of them did the iPhone. But, if you look at almost every smartphone out there now, they're all trying to look like the iPhone.

The iPad will capture "the living room". This is something the computer industry has been trying to do for years. This will be the casual device that you just pick up when you don't feel like turning on your laptop, or going back to the "computer room". It will become the e-book reader, and personal entertainment device, that anyone can use with very little computer knowledge. And, for computer professionals, like myself, I don't always need to carry a laptop for a meeting or presentation. This will, for some people, be a laptop replacement.

But, as with the iPhone, what will be the selling point, is applications. You're going to see some creative apps written for this device. Things we can't even imagine right now.

Now, this isn't going to solve all the world's problems and end hunger, but it will be a fundamental change in how we use computers, just as the iPhone changed the way we use phones. I may be wrong, but I've been in this industry a long time, and witnessed a lot of changes and trends.

Of all the computer companies I've seen come and go, I've learned to never underestimate Apple. They've had some major flops, but they are willing to take chances as no other company would, and they have changed the way many of us use computers.

So, I guess time will tell, but I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Anyway, my 2 cents worth... :)

My only disappointment was no webcam and no multi-tasking (except for the iPod app). And I was going to wait, but I have a use for this now. You can bet a webcam will be in v2.0, and *supposedly" OS 4.0 will support multi-tasking.

I'm sure in the teardowns to follow, you'll see a spot reserved for the webcam.

I think you hit the bullseye. This is precisely why I bought mine. I don't want to keep lugging the laptop everywhere. The Ipad will not replace it completely, but it will certainly allow me to leave the laptop home more often.

The apps are another thing that is nice. The prices for most of them are dirt cheap or free.

Yes, I bought one, and it will fill a nice little niche in my electronic media.

Personally I love mine. Just got it 2 days ago. My girl bought the 64gb 3G model as my college graduation present. I wasn't ready to pull the trigger and buy one so she bought it for me as a surprise. I've always been a PC guy, I've always had a toshiba laptop. But ever since I got my iPhone 3GS last year I have been loving Mac products.
