I only use the iPhone for wake, but need to plug it in to he headunit for power on long drives.
Would a separate usb power port allow the Bluetooth to work when plugged in?

Well, that didn’t work. Plugged into the power port and still no Bluetooth.

Plugging into a separate power source from the stereo should not turn off Bluetooth. Is Bluetooth on in the phone?

Bluetooth needs to be turned on, on the phone. The phone also has to be paired to the device, in this case the truck radio/headunit.

The Bluetooth works when the phone is not plugged in. Obviously it’s paired and active.

Check the specs on the deck. It may not be Bluetooth compatible with a 6yr old phone. Is the phone iOS the latest? The phone may not have up-to-date Bluetooth drivers. Be aware, updating to the latest OS, if you haven’t in a while, could affect phone speed and battery life.
