I wonder if Toyota is aware of this issue. It seems like a bug to me. Problem is it’s not a repeatable problem so I can’t even bring it in to dealer because it only randomly happens every once in while. My wife has an older Honda Pilot and even though the Bluetooth is horrible and sometimes takes up to a minute to connect, it always does connect, I’ve never had to turn her car off/on.

The Qi Charger has *always* been so flakey for me. That spot's gonna hold a ham radio someday.

You might wanna check your bluetooth settings for "TOYOTA Tacoma" on the phone. I haven't had any problems with the Bluetooth staying connected, although I don't really play music that often with the phone (I have an ipod connected to the USB port for more reliable performance). I have "Show Notifications" and "Sync Contacts" enabled. Neither should affect this particular issue, but it's easy and harmless to try.

The issue isnt that the phone wont pair or connect . It pairs perfectly fine and shows up on the top right of the screen. I can always make and receive calls and texts. It's just that every once in a while the audio wont stream and i get a message on the Entune's audio screen that says "Audio device not connected" So my iPhone is connected via bluetooth but it can't play audio. Again this only happens every once in a while (approx once a day or every 10 or so times i start up the truck). It actually happened today after lunch but this time i was able to fix it by simply resetting the Entune system by pushing and holding the power knob. The previous times that didnt work and i had to turn off / on the truck.

Ive never had the issues you are and I use my bluetooth daily. What are you using to play your music? Does it happen with any audio app or just in a specific one? I know apps like youtube can be finnicky when used over BT.
The wireless charger isn't a fast charge option, only 1.2amp I think. I use it when I know my phone can sit there for a while and get a charge. I found the phone to slide around less if I put it towards the front and into one of the front corners.
For a more reliable charging option, I would recommend putting a 2.4amp USB outlet in the center console. The one under your climate controls is made for USB input to the radio so only charges at 1.2amp if I recall correctly. I put a dual USB in the center console in place of the 12V outlet and it charges as fast as a home outlet.

Yeah, I get it. What I'm saying is that I have an older iPhone (7) and I pair it via Bluetooth and don't experience the problem (Maybe once a year or so, I need to re-pair it for some reason, but I do that for lots of different bluetooth devices -- so not unusual).

If it's a software problem, I was just suggesting you eliminate your configuration differences and see if the problem goes away. They likely didn't test all scenarios, and you might be an edge case.

If it's dropping a lot, it could just a crappy/dying phone, too. Might not be Entune.

Also, you may want to see if have the latest Entune firmware updates. And the latest phone updates.

thanks a lot everybody. I'm new here on the forum and everyone is really helpful!! I'm going try a few different
ideas, maybe completely close out the apple music app everytime before starting truck and see what happens. I'll report back
after a week if i get anywhere with narrowing it down.

I have the same issues and I have chalked it up to thats just the way its going to be...a lot like the useless navigation systems in these trucks. This is the first vehicle in a long time that I have seriously started looking at the aftermarket for the audio/navigation solution.

Same here. I haven't brought it up to the dealer since I can replicate it on demand so they can experience the issue first hand. I have tried so many different iterations for the ideas shared in this thread and nothing seems to work.

@R_Dub5 whats the latest regarding the audio connection? I took my truck in this week for another issue and asked them to check for any updates for the head unit. There was a newer version than what my '18 had.

Full disclosure. The update was applied on Monday this week. Since then I have restarted the truck about 15 times and its been solid every time. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. I will report back in a few weeks with results over that time.

I am not sure if this will help you to determine if mine matches yours or is newer but here is some info for you to check on your head unit:

That's good info! I'm going to to the dealer next week so I'll ask about the update. I've actually been better for the past couple weeks.
Problem did happen only once but pushing power button in (resetting) did the trick. Happened only that one time in at least 25 or more starts.
So I'd say the problem has gotten much better, it was happening quite often before.
I'll check my version next time I'm in the truck to see if I'm current. Thanks for the reply!

@R_Dub5 no problem. And to be fair no details to share regarding what this update fixes. So who knows long term.
