So I recently broke down and upgraded my rather well worn iPhone SE to an iPhone 11 running iOS 13.something. Overall, quite happy with it, other than the size... I'd like it about 1/3 smaller, but that is what it is. What's really irritating me is that I can't seem to stop it from automatically downloading e-mail.

I have "Fetch New Data" turned off, I have "Push" to off, and "Fetch" is set to "Manually", yet, it still keeps pulling new 'mail from my server. I only want it to download new 'mail when I open the 'mail application...

Everything I can find on line seems to indicate that my current settings, but clearly not. Any iPhone experts out there that set me straight?

Using the default mail application? That should be it. Only thing would be if it’s still doing an initial sync or something. Also might try restarting the phone. Sometimes you’ll get weird stuff like that which fixes on a reboot

Yes, default mail application. The really peculiar thing is, I'm having the identical problem on my iPad Pro as well. I've restarted, turned settings on and off... annoying.

Finally sorted it... when you go in to the the "Fetch New Data" page under "Accounts", you have to go in to the specific account and set each one to "Manual", vice just setting the "Fetch" at the bottom of the page to "Manual" which is what I'd done, not noticing the arrows beside each account name listed above them, and assuming, from what I'd read, that the "Fetch" setting at the bottom of the page was global. Not so much apparently.
