so after a few months of having less then quality sound in my truck i finally got my new head unit yesterday and installed it. my only problem with it, neither my iphone 5 or ipod classic will work on either of the usb plugs in the back.. i've searched around but most problems have to do with the app side of the radio not this specifically... any suggestions?

Are you just using the charging cable that came with your iPhone 5 and/or your iPod classic? If you are, I believe that won't work.

According to Pioneer's website, to get music and video from your iPhone to your 8500 you'll need this kit, this lightning adapter, and this cord (but you might already have this cord).

If you don't care about video and only want music, you can get this cable and this 30-pin adapter instead.

For your iPod, I think you can just use this cable. Its the same cable that you would use for your iPhone if you only wanted to do music.

If you already have the correct cables and adapters, recheck the connections of these cables and adapters. If they're all good to go and you still can't figure out why its not working properly, you might try resetting the 8500. Look on page 47 of your manual for instruction on how to do that. Good luck and congratulations on your new deck!
