The interest rates on a 2017 with 120,000 miles verses interest rates on a new one might be something to consider. Maybe look at a new 2023 SR5 2x4?

As anyone looking for a Tacoma recently knows, they're still getting $$ for used versions, their resale value is probably close to the best in class if not #1. I think you can do better but it'll take some looking and be prepared to travel for it if a good price is a priority. Personally I have no problem traveling to the next state for a vehicle.

if the truck were one owner and meticulously maintained and i had a trusted mechanic look it over, i might do low $20Kish.

All of these comments about what you paid for your truck 3-4 years ago when it was new/used, before 3-4 annual price increases, before COVID, before inflation, before the market crunch, are completely irrelevant.

OP, just do a comparison in your local market for trucks with similar mileage and see what they’re going for. Among trucks with similar mileage, compare cost vs the trim/features you get with it and decide what’s important to you. If it’s all clustered around the same price point, then that is what the market has decided the truck is probably worth. You can probably haggle a little bit on the margins as well.

Will there be outliers? Sure. There always are. You’ll see some beat up truck with a shoddy lift that is way overpriced. We all know it’s overpriced, so just keep looking.

You mean the guys telling him to buy a new SR5 for $41k when he’s looking at Limited versions aren’t grounded in reality?!?

Just go new man, used values are barely lower on within a few model years, the 2020 had some nice little updates over the earlier gen tacoma.

Yep-because theres the buyer who comes along and doesn't ask anyone for a second opinion...aye

Market value fellas.. As others have mentioned look at what theyre going for within how ever far you're willing to travel and you have your answer.. I personally don't think its too high but I'm in a similar scenario now searching for my daughter a 4Runner for graduation.. likely gonna buy new after seeing used market prices bc ive been looking for certified warrantied or under 60k miles

Today I learned that $46,000 is just slightly more than $25,990.

I'd be willing to bet if the op offered $22k, the dealer would grab it in a heartbeat. That truck isn't exactly low mileage.

    Yes.

But doing a nationwide search on Autotrader and I only found one Limited for under $30k and that was for $27 with 115k. Most were in the $32-$35 range with between 40k and 80k.

So, yes, too expensive, but apparently I'm wrong and no its not too expensive, not in this market.

This better be the most pristine car you have ever seen, that range seems wide and not accurate. I put my zipcode but checked other ones and price is the same(Except california, cali zip codes came with higher price). I wouldn't pay that much when you can get a brand new truck for a little bit more and you will know how it was maintained.

He's looking at a Limited which is not 'a little bit more'. Maybe a SR 2 wheel drive is 'a little bit more'...

With current interest rates dealers are going to price vehicles based on what people can get approved for as a monthly payment. That new vehicle may sound like a better deal even if it is more expensive but if that new vehicle pushes the monthly payment out passed what one can get approved for it makes the used vehicle a more attractive option.
