I'm looking for a 1st gen 4x4 regular cab with around 150,000 or less....I want a 2.7 5 spd....It will be my daily driver and I put 500 miles a week on a vehicle.... I found what looks like to be a nice one but the miles are high...279,000

It's a SR5 with the TRD package. From the looks of the front left fender I think it's had some front end damage sometime in the past because the paint doesn't match very well. I'm going to look at it tomorrow and know to check for frame rust and check the vin #. Anything else stand out to anybody that I should check out....?

What is a far price in Ya'lls opinon....?

    Here are a few pics.

Personally, I'd keep looking. 279k is a lot of miles unless it's been rebuilt.

I'd go take a look at it. If its been taken care of and you can get it for well under 4k, it may be worth it...I'd also keep looking, you may be able to find something with under 200k miles for just a few hundred dollars more.

I forgot to mention it's a 2001 and they are asking $5400...I think I'll ask for the vin # before I even go look at it. 279k is alot of miles with all I will be putting on it....I'm in no hurry atleast not until April...That is when our HHR will be paid off and the wife says it's hers then and I will have to find something else to drive to work....Fine by me... I have missed my 94 4x4 since I sold it.

I think its a bit overpriced for 279k. When I was looking I found plenty in this area under 200k but got real lucky and found mine at 127k for $8500….had to drive to Louisiana for it

I don't care how much these trucks hold their value, NO vehicle with 280,000 miles is worth $5,400.

My buddy had 670,000 miles on his 2.7, with only a valve job, and regular maintenance. Ran like new when he traded it.

Well I paid $5900 for my 01 ext cab v6 auto with 204k. No rust on frame or body, new tires on American racing wheels and tool box. If I had to put a price on it I would say $3500.

I spent the day looking for Tacoma's on car lots just to get a feel for them....There has been a V6 extended cab automatic with 170,000 for sale on a car lot I drive past every day for some time now....It was already sold when I got to the lot this morning.....On the way there I saw one on a lot that really only deals in used Jeeps....My guess it was a trade-in....Went back back by a few hours latter and someone had just bought it and was driving off the lot with it....Oh well I'll keep looking.

For a DD, I would keep looking. I think even 3500 is high. I paid 3500 for my '98 (over 2 years ago) with 176k and it needed some work. And at 279k, that truck is bound to need some kinda work.

I don't know where you live but I live in North Central Arkansas. I know a guy selling a 95 Tacoma 4x4 single cab. I'm not sure of engine size but I'm guessing a 2.4 or 2.7 with 164000 miles for $4,500.00 I can get more details if you'd like.

    +1

You're going to be doing 24k per year. Hold out for something under 200k.

Even a 3.4 w/248,000 mi. that still has factory hone marks in cylinders ?

& carried 8lbs of comp. between all 6 cylinders

(friend pulled the heads to do valves just because )

My brother bought a brand new SR-5 back in '80 IIRC & put close to 400,000 before trading it in on the new 1 ton they came out with, i think the dealer gave him 2k , they thought it'd only turned over once haha

To the best of my knowledge, no TRD packages were ever offered for reg cabs... I wouldn't let him jack up the price because it is a "TRD".

100% agree. This is just obscene. Still wanting top dollar when a vehicle is long past it's designed lifespan.
Power stroke and Cummins diesels are 'supposed' to go 600k or more, but I'm still not buying a truck with more than 170k on it. Just on principle.
When you get to crazy high miles like that, stupid stuff starts to wear out. Like...you need a new steering wheel. Door hinges don't work properly. The door/body frame has deformed so slightly over so many door slams that it leaks air like crazy. That's where your frame starts to warp and twist from 300k of metal fatigue. Or you go to put a new oil filter on but it won't screw on properly because the threads are fucked from sooo many oil filters being screwed on and off. Or lug nuts are stripped.

I almost guarantee if you buy this car, or one with high miles, you WILL eventually go to do some work and discover an issue that just makes you want to bang your head in.

& what IS the "designed lifespan" ?? I can appreciate what your saying to a point, what if the truck in question doesn't display the conditions you describe ?? My truck doesn't have the 280K you speak of, but it's got over 200K & has none of the issues you speak of....just sayin'....
